Don’t forget it’s our open day tomorrow, we are looking forward to seeing you all here. Please don’t forget parking is limited around the station. Our RTC demos are at 11am and 1pm. It’s going to be a great day out and best of all it’s free!

Blue watch spent some time with the young people from the Carlton life saving club yesterday. It was great to talk to the group about water safety and drowning prevention. The club members demonstrated some of their water rescue skills and had a look at the equipment carried by the crews from Highfields.

Today 2 of our Fire Fighters from our Prevention Department at Highfields were in Tescos in Beeston when a lady took ill and had a cardiac arrest. They acted quickly and performed CPR along with a trauma Nurse who also happened to be there until the Ambulance arrived. Our Fire Fighters are trained in Medical Response but this must have been a very difficult situation with no equipment with them. The lady was breathing again and we sincerely hope that she makes a full recovery. Well done to all concerned!! #notjustfires 🚒

Over the course of the past few months blue watch have been working with the Princes trust to deliver practical based exercises for the course participants to undertake. On Wednesday we went to Bramcote Park with two teams where we undertook a search and rescue based scenario.
Each team had to navigate a route using a map and then they stumbled across a Casualty who had fallen down a steep bank. After placing the casualties in stretchers they then had to carry the Casualty b...ack to the car park. The casualties were our training Dummies and are not the easiest to move about. Each team successfully completed the routes.
Our work with the Princes Trust is open to 16-25 year olds who are not in education, employment and training. The skills gained through the programme we deliver can greatly assist you in your future and you get out of the course what you put in. If you would like more information we can signpost you to people who can advise you further.

What a morning! As we are a technical rescue station we were called out this morning to a ram that was stranded due to flooding on the river trent, all the way over in Carlton on Trent.
Along with colleagues from Warsop, Newark and Tuxford fire stations we were able to send specially trained animal rescuers across the river on a boat. Both ourselves and Newark fire station are trained to deal with flooding and moving water incidents.
After a swim and tiring himself out we w...ere able to safely rescue the ram and return him to the bank where our colleagues from the RSPCA checked him over. Dazed but confused he is one lucky animal, make sure you keep yourselves out of harms way during any flooding as the water moves quicker that you may think, there are many objects that are dislodged during flooding that you may not be able to see and it is difficult to gauge how deep the water is.
Stay safe out there,
Blue watch

This morning blue watch have been at Middleton Primary School showing the nursery and year ones the fire engine. They were even lucky enough to have a go! It's a great opportunity to give young people an awareness of what we do as well as having fun at the same time

Today Highfields Blue Watch along with colleagues from Derbyshire FRS, Leicestershire FRS EMAS and Nottinghamshire police all assisted in the rescue of a casualty from the construction site on Toton Lane. We made up for the Aerial Ladder Platform as soon as we arrived due to the casualty being at height. WM Wilson Said " it was a difficult incident due to the amount of traffic and the large amount of resources at the scene. we want to thank you all for your patience and inform you that we were able to get the casualty into the care of EMAS safely."

White Watch welcomed the 124th Nottingham Scout Woden group last night! Harchie in particular had a fantastic time being taught Fire Safety and having a look around all our Fire Appliances and trying on some of our Protective fire kit! Thank you all for being so well behaved and enjoying your visit with us!

Last night, along with our colleagues from West Bridgford, Highfields attended a serious house fire. Fortunately the family had closed their internal doors which had protected their escape route. They had NO working smoke alarms and were only aware when one of them woke to a ‘popping’ sound. Closing their doors undoubtedly saved their lives but smoke alarms would have notified them way before any popping sound! Would you risk hoping to wake up to a fully developed fire that ‘may’ make enough sound to wake you up?? Or wake up to a smoke alarm that does wake the whole family the instant it detects smoke! Please make sure you have smoke alarms fitted! 🚒 (picture courtesy of the internet)...

Yesterday our Rope Rescue specialists decided to put their skills to the test! All the way at the top of a 55 metre Wind Turbine! 😳. We simulated that one of the engineers had suffered an accident and needed rescuing! After climbing to the top we successfully rescued our casualty (fortunately this was only a dummy this time) utilising our Rope Rescue training and safely lowered our casualty to the ground for EMAS to take over! A great training exercise that really tested our rope skills within a very different and challenging environment! 💨👩‍🚒💨

At Highfields we are a Technical Rescue Station, which means that not only do we have a Fire Appliance that deals with fires, road traffic collisions and many more general incidents, we also have a Specialist Rescue Unit that deals with more intricate rescues such as Water Rescue, Heavy Rescue (HGV's) and Rope Rescue, along with many more specialist incidents! Here is one of our White Watch members practising their Rope Rescue techniques 🚒👩‍🚒
