CCPD Course on Financial translation - City University (15-19 June 2015)
I organized an introductory course to Financial Translation to be held this summer (1 week, from 15 June) at City University, London. The course is designed for translators (who are not yet specialized in financial translation), translation students, linguists and anyone wishing to learn about of financial translation. No previous knowledge of finance is required.
... This CCPD (Continuous Personal and Professional Development) course covers the following subjects: bonds, inflation, foreign exchange, shares, the stock exchange, hedge funds and derivatives. Each day begins with a two-hour interactive lecture during which students learn about financial concepts through source text analysis. This is the “innovative” perspective of this course: the financial concepts are not explained theoretically as in a typical “academic” lesson (in a A-Z approach), but they would be found/extracted from within a text (a source text analysis which is essential for any translator).
Students are then given a translation task which they complete in the early afternoon and which is then discussed in a two-hour language specific workshop at the end of each day. We offer the following language combinations: English to Chinese, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish. Student will receive feedback on their work during the workshops and a certificate of completion at the end of the course.
