So very flattered this afternoon. Just had a lovely message from a budding GCSE textile student asking for tips on how to sew in zips. If anyone knows any other learners - young or old - who need a little advice than don’t be afraid to send them my way! Sewing is a wonderful skill to learn and I’ll always be more than happy to help where I can 😊 Plus I promise you I have plenty of experience with GCSE coursework. If any examiners are reading this than no I totally didn’t help my sister and her friends with theirs 😅

So the 2019 business year is over for me at Hocking Sewing. I would like to say a massive thank you to all of you for your support in the last 12 months. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for all of you. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!! Xx

If you’re in Penzance this evening than pop into @freshbarnet between now and 7:30pm! I haven’t got many things for sale I’m more promoting myself for next year! However I am selling Gift Cards if you’re looking for something different as a present this year. I’m even selling £25 cards for £20, which can be used against any of my services, including sewing lessons 😊 So if you’re around than do come in and say hi 👋

I’ll be there this Saturday with a few small stocking fillers for sale, so if you’re in the PZ area than do stop by and say hello xx

While I’m in the swing of things allow time to advertise some events I’ll be attending. Hoping I’ll have some new stock ready by then but at the very least come by and say hi xx

So once again an extended period of silence from me. I’ve been fully booked from the end of October and it looks like I have very limited slots for December so if you need me then get in touch ASAP!
One of the other reasons I’ve been quiet for so long is that unfortunately I’ve had to retire Doris my lovely vintage Singer sewing machine as she just wasn’t able to cope with the work load anymore (she was 80 this year so she’s done pretty well to last this long!). As a result I’ve upgraded to a new beast. Everyone meet Lisa 😁

Another article on my news feed. I often tell customers that there really isn’t much difference between high and low end brands. A lot of the time they’re made in the same factory, they just have a different label sewn in at the end.

Feeling a little excited this morning 😁Feeling a little excited this morning 😁

Had a bit of fun servicing this old beauty. Made in West Germany during the Cold War, she is one of the best examples of a vintage sewing machine I have ever seen. Hardly a spec of rust and only needed some light tlc to get her like new again. Brownie points to anyone who can guess the make and model 😁

Once again my busy schedule has meant my social media pages have gone silent so I do apologise for that. One of my favourite projects that I’ve worked on recently are these 4m long by 2m wide flags that I made for the Breeze Art and Makers Fair that’s on today and tomorrow at Trereife House. The weather is stunning so if you get bored of the beach than be sure to check them out!

I saw this on my private news feed and thought it would be an interesting one to share here. Dealing with everything from bargain bucket to the highest of the high brands, I’m not afraid to say that apart from maybe certain types of shoes and coats than there really is no point in buying labels. In my opinion I would say the quality is more often than not worse than what you get on the high street. If you’re happy to spend that sort of crazy money than personally I would suggest going to a small independent brand for something more unique (say handbags made out of recycled materials or companies that donate clothes to charity) or someone who can tailor make a one off item just for you. If you want to make a statement than I say be different and step away from the crowds x

After going through some old stuff in the house today I came across this. I absolutely adore this book and it is a massive part of who I am today. If you have or know anyone who has a little girl than I cannot recommend you give them this book fast enough. It’s a masterpiece 🥰

Apologies for the incredibly long silence (probably my longest one to date 😂) as I’ve been working flat out for the last couple of weeks with all sorts of projects. Unfortunately it looks like I’ve still got a few more weeks like it, so don’t expect to hear from me too often. However (with prom season fast approaching) I would suggest getting in contact ASAP if you require my services, as availability is very limited to say the least. Many thanks and have a lovely evening xx

User

Fingers crossed for the weather on Saturday! Slight change of plans as we’ll now be there 9:30am-1:30pm. Either way I’ll still have my lucky dip as well as a few sample dresses for you to admire 😁

I’m going to hire a robot to do my social media stuff as I’ve just been useless this year 🙄 Hopefully I’ll improve that as 2019 continues, especially as I have a few events coming up! My first one will be this weekend. I’ll have plenty of display items and my ever popular lucky dip available, so if you’re around than do stop by and say hi 😊

Sorry for another long silence. Had a short break and came back to sewing mayhem 😂 Thankfully that’s all under control and I can announce that I’ll be running a workshop at St John’s Hall on July 13th! At the moment I’m planning on running two sessions - one for the morning and one for the afternoon - for beginners as well as anyone who just wants to brush up on their skills. Watch this space for further details once I have them xx
