Hoghton Tower

About Hoghton Tower

Hoghton Tower is an historic house and stately home in the heart of Lancashire with house tours, gardens, and a tea room, and is perfect for weddings and corporate events. The Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust is a registered charity.

Hoghton Tower Description

Open to the public Sunday - Thursday from April - end September. Private tours and school visits bookable throughout the year.

The House has welcomed many royal guests over the centuries, including James I, William III, George V and Prince Phillip. Other distinguished visitors include William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Turner.

We invite you to take a stroll through history on a guided tour of one of England's most atmospheric stately homes. Our expert and entertaining guides will share stories into the many dramas and characters that have shaped the history of the house.

View panelled State rooms, including the State Bedchamber with it carved bed dating from 1560's, the Buckingham Room, the King's Ante chamber and the King's Bedchamber where James I slept.

Enjoy the Banqueting Hall with its Minstrels' Gallery. Admire the Tudor table crafted from a single oak tree felled from the surrounding woodlands and made 'in situ' in the hall. It was on this table in 1617 that King James I dined and knighted the Loin of Beef 'Sir Loin'.

Explore the Tudor Well House with its horse drawn pump and oaken winding gear. Visit the collection of dolls' houses - a delight for children and grown ups alike.

Finish your day with a visit to the gardens and gift shop. then pop into the tea rooms for some well earned refreshments.

We have had a wonderful magical visit to see Santa this morning. We had 14 children with a range of ages, all were catered for and loved the experience. We were made welcome by everyone not something you would usually get with young children in a stately home. Well done and thank you. Book us in for next year.

User

We enjoyed an absolutely deeeelicious afternoon tea today after a truly fabulous tour from Mandy around the truly beautiful building filled with so much interesting history. We would both highly recommend this as a great way to spend an afternoon

User

We came today with our two children to see Father Christmas and to experience the Christmas markets. Both were exceptional however our children were memorised with Father Christmas. He was so personable and it wasnt a rushed experience, like other places can be. Eric was amazed there was another Eric there too. Eric too was very personable Fantastic day and we came home with lots of scrummy goodies too!

User

I was lucky enough to week with the team at Hoghton Tower over the weekend, it was stunning! The team in duty looked after the Wedding guests superbly and ran the whole day and night so efficiently and fluently. I cannot wait to work there again in the near future. X

User

I stopped by with a few friends on our way back to London from the Lake District. Had a brief walk in the grounds and house and popped in to the tea room for tea and a bacon sandwich to escape the rain. The food and drinks were really good and the service was top notch and staff were very friendly and attentive. Hoghton Tower is a beautiful place which is rich in history and a great place to see and explore. It feels like you're going back in time and I can imagine the Lords and Ladies of the past and King James I feasting in the marvellous banqueting hall.

I didn't think I could be anymore in love with the tower than I was when I visited as a child. However, our wedding ceremony and reception this Saturday proved me wrong.

The outstandingly beautiful building speaks for itself but the magic truly comes from the attentiveness of Elena, her lovely family and the helpful and friendly staff.

Everyone has commented that the wedding and venue were perfect and we appreciate all the help, guidance and coordination provided throughout our special day.

The Irishman's Tower was the perfect hideaway at the end of the day and waking up to the views and grounds such priveledge. Thank you so much for allowing us to hold our wedding with you.

It was everything we dreamed of and more. Xx

User

Had a tour and afternoon tea booked today. The tour was run by a man called Eric, he was lovely very factual and knowledgable. The tour was fantastic ( and I'm not really interested in history) but I really got into it. A very interesting building! The tour was a hour and half then we went for afternoon tea! Which was delicious! If I was going to be picky the only thing I'd suggest to be better would be to add more savoury to the afternoon tea. Or have a option of more savoury or sweet. But lovely staff would go again!

User

User
