Have a child who is 8 or over? Do they enjoy sewing or perhaps never tried and always wanted to have a go? Then our NEW quarterly Children's Sewing Club is for them. Our first session is Saturday 22nd February 2-3.30pm when we will be making cross-stitch bookmarks in front of a cosy fire in the kitchen. All materials will be provided. Just one more week before we open for half term! On Tuesday 18th February we will be making toadstool nightlights from 11am - 3pm. There will be staff and volunteers on hand to help you make your creation.
We also have trails around the museum (with prizes!) as well as a Victorian nursery for you to explore with toys to play with and costumes (including a sailor suit!) to try on.

It's damp and murky outside and it's likely to remain that way for the next few weeks, when yes, it will be HALF TERM! Don't worry though as we will be putting on a fun craft drop-in for all ages on Tue 18th Feb 11am - 3pm. We will be making Toadstool nightlights with their very own LED candle inside. Perfect for these dusky days and nights.
The activity is free for those purchasing an annual ticket and just £1 per child for those returning with their annual tickets. Rememb...er if you pay for admission once you receive free entry for the whole year. What a bargain!
We will also have lots of trails (and prizes!) and a warm fire in our cosy Victorian Kitchen.

Victorian books in the cosy Victorian Kitchen! Yes our popular Victorian Book Group is back on the first Wednesday of the month with more chat and cake. Last year we debated if Margaret Hale from North and South was a social reformer or po-faced and pious; if Scrooge's neglectful childhood had shaped his character as an adult, and if The Tenant of Wildfell Hall was a feminist work.
Fancy delving into this year's list? We start the year with The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins o...n Wednesday March 4th 10-11.30am. There's no need to book, just turn up. The group is free with an annual admission ticket, so once you have paid for one visit you can come for as many sessions as you like throughout the year. We serve tea and coffee as well as cake in the kitchen. Donations towards the refreshments are always appreciated.
For those eager to get ahead here are the books for the whole year!
Wednesday April 1st: The Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle Wednesday May 6th : Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell Wednesday June 3rd : The Turn of the Screw by Henry James Wednesday July 8th : Grub Street by George Gissing Wednesday August 5th : The Portrait of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde Wednesday September 2nd : Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon Wednesday October 7th : Daniel Deronda by George Eliot Wednesday November 4th : Phineas Phinn by Anthony Trollope Wednesday December 2nd : Under the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy
