From today's First Reading at Mass: Be calm but vigilant, because your enemy the devil is prowling round like a roaring lion, looking for someone to eat. Stand up to him, strong in faith and in the knowledge that your brothers all over the world are suffering the same things (1Peter 5:8-9)

Christianity is a very practical religion. It takes into consideration everyone capabilities and where they are at. In today's first reading (Acts 8:26-40) at Mass, Philip evangelises one-to-one the Ethiopian which leads to his conversion and baptism. In Acts 10 Peter evangelises a household: the household of Cornelius. They are all converted and baptised. In Acts 2 Peter (at Pentecost) Peter and the Apostles evangelises thousands of people and three thousand people are conv...erted and baptised. You might not be able to speak to a crowd of thousands but you can lead a family or an individual to conversation.

The outermost garment the priest wears for Mass called chasuble is normally heavy. The weight of it is a reminder to the priest of the weight of his pastoral ministry. God does not give any of us a weight we cannot carry; He does not call us to a vocation or a task that we cannot do with His help. As Paul says, 'He who has called you is faithful and He will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:24).'
... And so the priest may say this prayer when he wears the chasuble: O Lord, You said: My yoke is easy, and My burden is light: make me so able to bear it, that I may obtain Your favour. Amen.

There was a morning of Retreat today for Confirmation Catachists of the parish. Lara McManamom, a parishner here at Holy Ghost, gave a very good and inspiring talk at it about working with young people.

I came across this statement watching a YouTube video and I really liked it. It said:
TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!!!
And it's true; His grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9) for us to be stressed.... And He calls us to come to Him we who labour and are overburdened (Matthew 11:28). And do we not pray at each Holy Mass that He saves us from all distress.

The Mother of God, the most pure Virgin, carried the true light in her arms and brought him to those who lay in darkness. We too should carry a light for all to see and reflect the radiance of the true light as we hasten to meet Him.
Today is the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Mary and Jospeh present the child Jesus to the temple as required by Law of Moses (Luke 2:22-40). Happy Feast day!!!

LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE!!! This is how I started my homily today. And I like to talk about love. The second reading for today's Mass is all about love. Have a read when you have time: 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13 http://www.universalis.com/20160131/mass. htm Think of all the love your heart was made to receive and all the love it was made to give; we are made for love, Pope Benedict XVI tells young people at the piazza of Westminster Cathedral. Love is total self-gift, which is se...lfless. Love is to will the good of the other as other. Not to will my good through the other. That is indirect egoism. Love is not emotions. When you see that pretty lady or nice guy and your heart beat increases; that is not love. If we are made for love, then when we truly love, we will find fulfillment and joy in it. This is the Jubilee Year of Mercy!!! And what a more powerful place to encounter and celebrate the mercy of God than in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (also called Confession), where all our sins are all forgiven; even those we cannot remember. Pope Francis (who has declared this year the Jubilee Year of Mercy) said last Friday that the embrace of God’s love has the power to silence all our sins, no matter how many. What a gift of Mercy the Sacrament of Reconciliation is!!! ...(Fr Joe Owusu-Ansah (Assistant Parish Priest - Holy Ghost Parish) #year of mercy #mercy

Why is it second week in January and Fr Joe is still posting a picture of the crib (in Holy Ghost)?😧 Yes!! For us Christians we are still in the Christmas season (also called Christmastide). Christmas season for us ends on Sunday which is the feast of the Baptism of our Lord. Whatever is good and joyful you do not celebrate it in a day: you extend the celebration. When people get married they just don't celebrate it on the day but go on honeymoon to extend the celebration o...f the goodness and joy of their marriage.πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸΎ #joy Fr Joe Owusu-Ansah (Assistant Parish Priest - Holy Ghost Parish)

Kneeling in church (Holy Ghost) to pray on Sunday I was blessed with this amazing sight and so took a photo of it. There is a lot of teaching packed in this image. The middle and white candle of the Advent wreath (which still remains in the church) represents the new born King, Christ our light. The wreath seems to cast a shadow on the crucified Christ. Christ's birth already foreshadows His death. He is born and then dies to take away our sins. When we are born we begin to m...ove closer to our death πŸ˜§πŸ˜”πŸ˜₯ ('That is so mean, Fr Joe πŸ™ˆ). No wonder the next day after Christmas we celebrate the martyrdom (killing for his faith in God) of St Stephen. But let us be encouraged because for us Christian death is not the end but new life in Christ in the Kingdom of HeavenπŸ˜€. This is our hope and it makes us joyful. #joyπŸ‘πŸΎ
