On Sunday, 4 August 1918, the fourth anniversary of the declaration of war, King George V and Queen Mary joined members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords for a special service at the Church of Saint Margaret, Westminster. The King had asked that 4 August 1918 should be observed as a National Day of Prayer: 100 days later the war ended.
On 4 August 2018 churches across the country, across the spectrum of denominations, start 100 days of prayer, peace and reconciliation.
If you would like to share in this 100 days of prayer, daily prayers and reflections and other resources can be found at https://www.remembrance100.co.uk/100-days /

Visitors to Holy Trinity Church will be able to see The Angel of Dresden by Charles Walker Hazzard, which we are hosting until Sat 18 August, as part of the centenary of the Church of England Diocese of Coventry. The sculpture reflects on the bombing of Dresden at the end of World War II and reminds us of the effort towards peace and reconciliation that Coventry Cathedral has sought with Dresden and subsequent spheres of conflict. On Sunday we blessed the sacramental oils that will be used throughout the parish. The Oil of Chrism is used for anointing at confirmations and for priests at their ordination, the Oil of Catechumens is used at baptisms and the Oil of Infirmity is used for anointing the sick. Until 18 August we are hosting a display of photos and information from Quinary, a group of artists committed to contemporary textiles. The work on display reflects themes of reconciliation and renewal and is part of an arts programme to celebrate the centenary of Church of England Diocese of Coventry The display also features costumes supplied by the Royal Shakespeare Company as part of their Stitch in Time campaign.

Some pictures from Patrick’s journey up the scaffolding to the top of the South Transept, and the new cross on the top in all its glory.

User

This morning Revd Patrick took a perilous journey, to the top of the South Transept to bless a new stone cross. You may have noticed that over the last few months some work has been carried out on the South Transept. The work is nearing completion and one of the final jobs was the installation of a new cross at the top of the roof, to replace the previous one which had disintegrated.

If you see these two out and about in Stratford today and wonder what they are doing, it's all part of a video we are making with Ben of Ats Films asking people in Stratford what they think about church.

Don’t miss hearing Konya Kanneh-Mason, guest musician at Soundbites at 1pm on Wednesday 11th July at Holy Trinity. Part of the talented Kanneh-Mason family (her brother Sheku played cello at the Royal Wedding), Konya has been awarded the prestigious Sir Elton John Scholarship to The Royal Academy of Music for September 2018 and, at just 17, is an upcoming talent in piano and violin. Our Soundbites concerts are free although we take a retiring collection.
