Today Honey Bee Therapies attended the National Running show to extend our knowledge for both treatment and prevention on injuries in Runner’s.
At the show we attended workshops that included:
• Foam Rolling
... • Mobility workshops
• How to Fuel your run correctly pre and post run
• How heart rate isn’t always a good indicator of peak performance.
We also purchased some spikey and smooth Trigger point release balls (there evil) to demonstrate how to release off those muscles at any time of day at the end of your treatment session.
Also we purchased a book full of information about the management and prevention of running injuries. To hopefully help and advance our clinical knowledge!
If anything if to be taken from today mobility and strength work, nutrition and injury prevention are just as important as the running itself!

Instrumented Assisted Soft tissue Manipulation:
What is it? (IASTM)
This is a non invasive form of manual therapy that is used to manipulate and mobilise soft tissue structures of the human body. To relieve musculoskeletal pains and discomfort to improve mobility and function.
... The tool allows a deeper level of palpation, it breaks down scar tissues and adhesions and increases fibroblast proliferation. This allows the facilitator collagen, reabsorption of fibrosis and maturation of tissues.
It may look scary but it’s actually not as painful as a Sports massage and it can be more effective!

❤️Why do we experience pins and needles? ❤️
Pins and needles are caused by putting pressure on the blood vessels that supply your nerves, preventing them from receiving oxygen.
When the pressure is released the blood starts flowing and you feel the blood start to flow again, thus the feelings of pins and needles.
... Cause: sitting in unnatural positions for long periods.

Why do we Bruise?
A Bruise is caused by a blow or impact that ruptures blood vessels under the skin.
Bruising is often increased with age, activity levels (muscular strains)and medications, such as ibuprofen and fish oils cause thinning of the blood. ... Muscular strains can occur when you do not warm up properly, when the muscles are over used or put under to much pressure. A common muscular strain is a hamstring tear due to acceleration during sprinting and kicking movements. This can cause severe bruising and loss of function depending on the severity of the strain.
How can you reduce bruising:
Increase intake of amino acids, Proteins, vitamins D and C will help rebuild and strengthen blood vessels.
Ice! slowing the blood flow and swelling to the area.
K Taping helps reducing bruising and swelling, by lifting the skin and assisting the lymphatic drainage system, causing a decrease of inflammation.

Andy Murray has decided to retire due to a recent hip operation.
Athletes put the bodies through high intensity training for a number of years, to of course be the best. They are also accompanied with a medical team including Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists, Rehabilitation specialists, strength and conditioning coaches and Massage therapists. Offering professional,24 hour, full body care so the athlete can perform to there best.
Without this team Andy could not be the be...st!
I know we not all athletes, we all put our bodies through all types of strains and difficult activities throughout the day!
Perhaps even considering a little professional help would help you improve your wellbeing and performance.
Weather it’s seeing a personal trainer once a month, booking a massage, or sorting that ongoing injury out. Take care of yourself! And made a little inspiration from a sensational tennis player....

🍋What oils do we use? 🍊
We have recently changed the type of wax/oils we use; to offer a natural, nourishing massage!
Flow: This massage wax is skin nourishing, NUT free, it contains no parabens and no man made chemicals ! (Amazing, right?). It creates a light aroma of citrus allowing a relaxing and revitalising massage.
... Contents: Sunflower seed oil, Bees wax, Lemon and orange peel oil, D limonnene and citral and that’s it!
Every tub of wax handmade fresh in Devon, which is exactly why we use this product! 🍋
The Oil:
Fractionated coconut 🥥
100% pure and natural • Vegan • Cruelty Free
This light was oil is absorbed by skin easily, without clogging up pores. Leaving skin feeling hydrated and enriched without the greasy feeling other oils can cause!
We combine both Flow wax and Fractionated coconut to offer versatile, non oily, relaxing massage.

Sophie is fantastic at what she does, she always starts each session with a little chat to find out what area she needs to focus on. Sophie has worked wonders with my shoulder issues already after two sessions. Sophie also gives me exercises which I can do at home to continue helping with my injury. During my sessions I always feel really relaxed and Sophie creates a very friendly, chilled out atmosphere so we have good chats! Thank you Sophie xxx

My husband and I were lucky enough to win an hours sports massage each with Sophie. I can highly recommend her services. Sophie is friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I was tight in places I never knew and my husband has come away with knowledge about damage to his shoulder muscle and some exercises to help improve it. We'll be back. Thank you Sophie!

I do so many different workouts and rarely had problems- just needed occasional sports massages and I was right as rain. :)Then I started a very intense university programme which has messed me up so much! Back, hips, shoulders, you name it, I was a disaster! Sophie has been instrumental in the maintenance of my mobility over the last year and I could never thank her enough. She is an incredible therapist, always professional and she really cares about her clients. Thanks, Sophie!!
