Battle of the Homebrewer!
We’re calling all budding home-brewers to enter into our fourth home-brew competition.
All you need to do is brew a beer at home, bottle it and bring it down to Hop and Cleaver no later than Thursday 20th September. The winning brewer will then be selected by a panel of judges and will get the opportunity to brew their winning beer at the Hop and Cleaver Brewery.
... Home Brew Competition Rules:
🍻 Entry is open to all home-brewers
🍻 The three categories are: light beers and pale ales (including IPA), dark beers (including porters, stouts and red ales), specialty beers (e.g. wheat and sour beers etc.)
🍻 The beers can be up to a maximum of 6% abv and must be delivered to Hop and Cleaver no later than Thursday 20th September - all bottles must be clearly labelled.
🍻 Home-brewers can enter a maximum of three bottles

We went for Restaurant week. We were greeted by Patrick who was very friendly and enthusiastic. The menu looked great, so I can't wait to go back, but as it's Restaurant Week there was only one option for me!! I was NOT disappointed!! There were so many wonderful flavours in the special meal, all of the meat was wonderful but the star was those barbeque beans.... I rushed home to find a similar recipe to try it was that good!! Honestly the most memorable meal I've had in a while, fantatsic service with Patrick's great sense of humour. We are already planning on bringing family in a few weeks, on their first visit to the UK, we think this will be an awesome welcome!!!

We visited on a busy day because of football. We were seated quickly and we absolutely fell in love with the interior of this very old building. The drinks were reasonably priced. The staff very friendly and attentive. The food was awesome. I had "pigs in the garden" which was huge. Lovely pulled pork served with a wonderful salad and blue cheese. All in all very impressed. Thank you

Had a brilliant few hours in the hop and cleaver yesterday, food was delicious, staff were very helpful and changed a cocktail for a mocktail for my grand daughter , good range of food and drinks on offer too !

Great quieter oasis in the chaos of the quayside just a couple of doors up from where we stayed

Best ribs, fabulous decor and good atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Amazing wee place was over to newcastle for first time from northern ireland went here for dinner and drink brilliant.

Went here last Saturday night, food was great and in house brewed beer was too, staff were very attentive and service was very good prices cheaper than I thought would definitely recommend

Came for restaurant week and ordered the tasting crate. Delicious food, the ribs were especially amazing � Looking forward to returning to try some of the food on the main menu. Only downside was I ordered a pornstar martini and was served what can only be described as pure lime juice � too harsh to drink. Other than that service was lovely and food was yummy! Will be back just maybe I'll stick to soft drinks �

Came for lunch here yesterday, service was a little slow waiting for drinks but when they arrived my cocktails were lush!

Ordered the chicken ceaser salad which was nice, though at £12.50 it was pretty steep.

My partner had the blue cheese burger and sweet potato fries he loved it!

Such a shame! I don't know what's happened to the food here recently but its not a scratch on what it used to be. The flat iron steak used to be AMAZING.



Lukewarm, tough steak (didn't really eat it) and bland mac n cheese. Sorry H&C but I don't think I'll be returning!



*Saying this, the staff were efficient and friendly and the beer is pretty good
