Hope And Elvis

The aim of this workshop is to explore playful ways in which images and visual information can be generated and developed through drawing. By working with individual imagery gathered in sketch books, photographs etc, we will be trying to exploit the potential of sometimes the most simple and mundane scraps of image, mark and shape. Matthew Harris is a graduate of the textile course at Goldsmiths College and has been working with textiles since 2000, having for the previous te...n years made and exhibited drawings and works on paper. He has shown in a number of group and solo exhibitions throughout the U.K, Ireland and Japan.
Matthew Harris makes work that employs dying, cutting and hand stitching. It is concerned primarily with abstract imagery and the translation of drawn marks into cloth. By making work that is pieced, patched and assembled, he aims to create pieces that explore repetition, pattern and the disrupted or dissonant journey of line and image across and through the surface of cloth.
£425 including all materials, 2 course lunch & refreshments each day (3 day course)

The Royal Wedding was occurring the same day and I feel we all didn’t feel left out as the class acknowledged it in a nice subtle and fun way. I thought it was handled very well as we didn’t end up glued to the set for too much time. The table was so lovely how it was set out for lunch and the lunch was delicious! The room is spacious and there was so much to see! Well done Louise and the tutor Mandy!

I have been to several events and tutorials over the years. Loved every single one of them. Fun, relaxed but productive & educational.

I attended a wonderful workshop recently at Hope and Elvis. Louise and Marna created an uber inspirational environment in which we could all relax and let the creativity flow. Would highly recommend. The lunch was also amazing!

Hope and Elvis is an amazing and soothing creative space, it has become my go-to place for some busy meditation and creativity!
