The Hope Rising Cross Country Run, branded as the ‘Tyrrell Trail’ was again held at the beautifully scenic Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre. This is an annual winter event held since February 2012
It was a beautiful day, mild and sunny from the start, with very little wind and ideal for a trail run through a beautiful part of the forest
Just over 60 runners arrived and ran a track that was quite muddy in places, but this only added to what is a very challenging track. The... runners had the choice between a 5km race and a 10km race which appeals to the more serious runners. The 5km race consisted of one loop around the Avon Tyrell property while the 10km run consisting of two loops. While this track is demanding it does take the runners through and past some spectacular and breath-taking views
The course is designed to offer as much of mother nature as possible without too much interference from us, with flat and fast section, demanding climbs, twisty downhills and a little mud and water just to remind the runners where they are running
There were some very good finishing times from the runners with excellent winning times of 23.39 for the 5K, and 48:12 for the men’s 10km and a tremendous time of 47:49 for the ladies 10km
One of the winning runners commented that it was the most exciting track he had run as it made him feel like a kid again, on a forest adventure just not knowing what was ahead and looking forward to every twist and turn with excitement, and a little trepidation!!!!
The runners were most complimentary on the track layout, directions and marshalling which allowed them to focus on the very challenging trail run and just enjoy the scenery.
All runners received a medal as a memento and all runners in the top three of each race received a place medal and prizes. Several spot prizes were given out as well
Once again many thanks to Chris Potter, Keith and Liz for their invaluable help. Without your help it would not be the same
Thank you to the team at Avon Tyrrell who were, as always, extremely helpful and a real pleasure to work with, and of course for accommodating us in the use of the grounds.
A Final thank you to all the Hope Rising team for their invaluable help in making the day the success that it was, to all the officials, marshalls, helpers and catering team a very big thank you

The Hope Rising Cross country run will once again be held at the scenic Avon Tyrrell Youth Centre on the 17th February 2018. This is a beautiful venue and the course is demanding and a challenge, but fun to run. It is a 5km course through typical New Forest terrain, and the event consists of a 5km run(once around) and a 10km run( twice around). There are medals and prizes for most categories and all finishers will receive a medal as a memento.

The Hope Rising Cross Country Run, recently renamed the ‘Tyrrell Trail’ was held at the beautifully scenic Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre. This was the sixth Run we have held at Avon Tyrell.
The day started sunny and dry and by 10 o’clock the weather was mild and an ideal day for the runners to tear up the track. Over 80 runners arrived and ran a track that was quite muddy in places, but this only added to the challenge!! There were some very good times from the runner...s with brilliant times of 21:17 for the 5K, and 44:04 for the 10K.
The feedback from the runners was extremely positive, with one runner asking us to “accept my congratulations and my thanks to you and all your volunteers who made yesterday’s run such an occasion….The weather was great, the organisation was faultless”.
Another saying “…And I'd just like to say a huge Thank you to the organisers, marshals, supporters and runners.. We need them all to make this happen. Fantastic Venue and Beautiful trail, Loved it...”
S.B, a 5k runner even provided us with a short race report which you can read below:
“I’ve taken part in various cross-country and trail run races before but the Avon Tyrell Trail run which took place on the 18th of February was definitely one I will never forget. The runners had the choice between a 5K race and a 10K race which would have appealed to the more serious runners. The 5K race consisted of one loop around the Avon Tyrell property while the 10K run consisting of two loops. The course was greatly designed, containing everything a keen runner would expect, namely some relatively flat and fast sections but also some short punchy climbs as well as some technical windy descents which took the runners past some spectacular and breath taking views along the way. The course has been said to be very demanding and challenging and rightly so. I would definitely recommend this race to someone who enjoys running off-road but also for someone looking for a challenge. I’d like to thank Hope Rising for organising this great run and really look forward to participating in next year’s edition
All runners received a medal as a memento and all runners in the top three of each race received prizes as well as some spot prizes being given.
The Race results can be found on the Hope Rising website http://www.hoperising.co.uk/
Once again many thanks to Chris Potter and his team for their invaluable help.
Thank you to the team at Avon Tyrrell who were, as always, extremely helpful and a real pleasure to work with, and of course for accommodating us in the use of the grounds.
A final thank you to all the Hope Rising team for their invaluable help in making the day success that it was, from marshaling to providing the bacon rolls, tea and coffee.
