Horncastle: U3A Description
Welcome to Horncastle U3A. Horncastle is a small attractive market town that lies midway between Lincoln and Skegness and often referred to as the "Gateway to the Lincolnshire Wolds". It is well known for its antique shops and notable historic buildings, including the 12th-century St Mary's Church.
The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operative for older people no longer in full time work. Don't be put off by the word "University"; you do not need any formal qualifications to join - just a willingness to keep your mind and /or body active.
It provides opportunities for its members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun.
Our U3A has over 215 members (August 2015) with 100 or so regularly attending our monthly meetings. We have over 30 interest groups, varying from Art & Design to Walking, with something for everyone in between.
General meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 10 am in the Stanhope Hall, Boston Road, Horncastle, LN9 5NF. Our groups meet in members' homes, hired rooms or wherever is appropriate.
Membership is currently £15 per year (April to March) and entitles you attend any meeting, interest groups where there are vacancies and vote at the Annual General Meeting. Non-members are very welcome to attend up to two general meetings as visitors before deciding whether to join.
