So, once Bridget & I had sated our appetites we decided to slake our thirsts so we popped over to the other side of town to visit Kwas. Kwas is Huddersfield’s first wine bar (it’s second one will be along soon, once I’ve finished with the emulsion) it’s a cosy place with a big heart and a warm welcome from Ola and Duncan. We chatted long and drank well and after drinking four different wines we left with a couple of bottles (it is a shop and a bar) and a warm glow. More proof that Huddersfield has wonderful independent businesses which work and play by their own rules but do it brilliantly, individually, well.

So tonight Bridget and I thought we should check out Epicure’s new menu. IT. WAS. EPIC. I’ll be honest we didn’t expect any less but even so the plates arrived bursting with flavour and cooking excellence and once we’d finished they were licked clean. Top notch cooking, top notch service, delicious wine and a very, very enjoyable evening. @ Epicure bar and kitchen

How much packaging is too much packaging? Bridget ordered this Jo Malone product 10 weeks ago and it has arrived in the most over packed and wasteful way imaginable. Maybe the elaborate ‘pass the parcel’ style packaging is why it took so long. If I put a present that small in a box that big it’d look like a bad practical joke.
Less is more.

So today I’m pretending to be a Master of Wine as the inimitable Richard Kelley MW is busy having fun in New Zealand so I’ve taken his place in, er, Doncaster. It’s the Tom Simpson memorial ride and I’m here to persuade men in Lycra to drink wine immediately after a bike ride!!

The same job just different sides of the world. On the left is How Bridget got to her wine tasting in New Zealand and their idea of food, (that’s a whole goat and 3 sheep on that BBQ!!) On the right is how I got to my tasting in Manchester and what I ate afterwards, in fairness they had put food on but I was advised that the gnocchi was like bullets so Greggs won. The same result though, lots of new and very, very tasty wines discovered. Hard work this job you know. #winesofnz
