I’ve had a few scrapes in the last couple of weeks, between scrambling down volcanic slopes and “shinning” a boulder in the Peak District, I’ve been happy to have had my first aid kits with me. The small “cuts kit” sorted me out from the belt pouch in Lanzarote and having the full FAK in the Peaks meant splitting my shin open was just a five minute stop instead of a potential trip to A&E. Making steady progress up the scorched gully where infrequent rain flows from the summit during storms, I see ahead the Devils Face: small bubbles in the long solidified lava flow that form the eyes and mouth of this feature.
