Sènsa is a performance project developed by Paul Maheke and Melika Ngombe Kolongo (Nkisi). It draws on research into the sonic remainders of the Big Bang, echoes and resonances, rhythm and prediction, taking inspiration from the cosmologies of Bantu-Kongo and creation stories.
The sound-score, composed and performed live by music producer Nkisi, uses sounds generated by the interaction between Maheke’s body and the building as a primary material. Lighting designer Ariel Efraim Ashbel’s lights will operate as an autonomous performative agent informing the viewer’s experience.
Developed in association with Performa in New York and commissioned by Block Universe, Sènsa will premiere in London, before touring in New York in Autumn 2019.

User

What an amazing place! Oozing with charm and history, great atmosphere and set in a really vibrant little corner of London. Can't wait to go back.

User

Utterly enjoyed oranges and elephants. So good to see a stage jam-packed with super-talented women! Great show full of gangland japes, great songs and lovely staging all in a very special diminutive space.

User

Spent lots of my youth there and it really hasn't changed that much thank goodness and the pantomime was second to none!!

User

Saw James Bay here and oh my no matter where you are, you are not far away, balcony or floor. Great little historic place which makes it so much more involved and intimate and special. Fab venue all round and staff. Thank you

User

Possibly the best gig I've been to! A hidden gem. Never been to this venue before and saw Bill Callahan last Friday night. Small intimate venue. Not a bad seat in the house. Friendly staff. It was the stuff of dreams. Sat up in the first floor balcony. Great view.

User

Nick made my little sister's wedding day an absolute dream! He was wonderful to work with and looked after the whole bridal party so well helping out at every chance he got, he also wore a great suit on the day!! THANK YOU NICK!

User

My grandson had a great time yesterday and has gone again today half term of dance and making new friends.

User

Many years have passed since I entered this building but as I do I'm struck by the automatic doors and I think "oh it's all changed" but then I find actually it is very much as I remember. The staff so friendly and welcoming the atmosphere so warm I feel right at home, and I love the set of songs by Moddi. I have such happy memories of being in this place and now I can make some more.

User

Lovely small venue which oozes history. Great for making the concert I attended feel more intimate as you're so close to the stage. The staff were really helpful and friendly which made the evening feel even more special.

User

Just saw Oranges and Elephants. What an incredibly inspiring and important show, as well as just great fun. Hope it will be back again very soon for another run in this beautiful space!

User

Had a great afternoon out, my daughter was quite scared of the big bad wolf but we'll be back to see more shows!!

User

Great panto, all the family had a wonderful time. We all loved booing the magnificent wolf. Thoroughly recommend it. .

User

Great night, great atmosphere and great friendly staff. For my first time attending an open mic poetry as a poet myself I really enjoyed myself . Every poet and poetry read was 👌👍👏

User

Great fun for all family, relaxed atmosphere. We went with a one year old and all of us left happy:)

User

Good Gig (Lou Sanders), Great Venue, Amazing Staff (though the bar didn't open early enough ... :) ).

User

Don't let the 21st century glass front doors fool you. Inside, this is a bit of a hidden gem of a theatre. We sat in first floor balcony and the view was great. Friendly staff. Yes the drinks are a little more expensive than the local offy.. But seriously.. What do you expect from an independent, small theatre. I'd rather pay a little more and support this fab place. A direct mile walk from Liverpool St station, so a bit of a hike but that really is the only downside.

User

Beatiful old building with such a unique stage.

It's very tall but quite narrow, so the focus becomes entirely on the stage and you can get an excellent view no matter where you sit.

It has a timeless feel to it, you could very easily imagine Queen Liz the 1st to be watching front and center.

User

Awesome building and venue. Very nice staff and great sound on the Richard Barbieri concert. Great time to be had by everyone there and discovered a new lovely place in London :)

User

Lovely little venue. Lots of character. Went to see JONES on Wednesday good for a concert as it's pretty good cosy so you get quite close wherever you are! I'd be back!
