ICYMI: CALL FOR A DIRECTOR
The first play of our 100th season will be Amanda Whittington’s Mighty Atoms, in the very first production of this play anywhere outside of its original run in Hull. We're on from 8-12 October 2019 at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, with rehearsals starting in early August.
The Casting Committee are looking to appoint a Director for this all-female cast. Expressions of interest should be to be sent to casting@huddersfieldthespians.co.uk. If you have no...t directed for the Thespians before, please outline what experience you have that you can bring to this production.
The story Ex-boxer Taylor Flint wants to put the past behind her but she’s got a fight on her hands.
Back on the Hull estate where she grew up, Taylor is drawn into running a boxercise class. They meet at The Six Bells pub, which landlady Nora runs as her own community hub. And for the local women, boxercise soon becomes more than a way to lose weight and have a laugh.
When the pub is threatened with closure, the class refuse to throw in the towel.
Inspired by a true Hull legend, they commit to an unlicensed Fight Night to raise cash. Yet as the countdown begins, it’s Taylor who finds herself on the ropes.

The cast: The cast is entirely female, consisting of: Aneta ideally 40+ Grace ideally 18+ Taylor ideally 28+ Nora ideally 50+ Lauren ideally 30+ Barbara ideally 20+ Jazz ideally 20+ (a female in transition)
A key part of the play is physical movement, boxercise and some boxing – however, as the playwright says: this can be adapted to match the performers’ level of ability.
