HUIS [House in Flemish] is a new Belgian Bar and Kitchen in Southsea.

Huis Description

HUIS [BELGIAN BAR + KITCHEN]

A independent bar in Southsea, Portsmouth, bringing Belgian beer and food culture together. Our beer range is extensive and ever changing with over 60 beers on offer. Our draughts include our own exclusive HUIS wheat, pilsner and blonde beers.

Eating at HUIS, we are the ideal lunch and dinner venue. We have full à la carte options with a dedicated fresh mussels menu, traditional Belgian dishes cooked in beer, and more including weekly specials. For lighter paletes we offer menu options from £5. 95.

The décor is based around a 1960s living room with modernist features, and creates a welcoming atmosphere whether you’re taking a coffee or quick lunch with us, making us your local or are looking for a late night venue to enjoy good beer and food with your friends.

We are open until 2am Friday and Saturday, midnight Sunday to Thursday. The kitchen is open from midday until 10pm daily.

Huis owner Simon Docker joined industry stakeholders Bart Verhaeghe and Alain De Loecker (sales manager of Westmalle) at the Embassy of Belgium. The meeting was to discuss Brexit and the Belgian beer industry, closer work Huis can do with Tourism Flanders and setting up better trade links with smaller brewers. ... A pale and hazy wheat beer with pronounced foraged herbal notes, this beer has hints of clove, citrus, and banana. Low in alcohol but with plenty of flavour, this one is a perfect thirst-quencher.
COLLECTIVE ARTS STRANGER THAN FICTION, 5.5%, CANADA
This is a full-bodied porter with plenty of roast flavour as well as hints of molasses. Ridiculous amounts of chocolate and pale ale malts make this porter smooth and creamy but seriously drinkable.
TINY REBEL X LOKA POLLY KIR ROYALE, 6.2%, UK
The 2 brewers went blackcurrant picking, loaded all the tasty little juicebombs into a subtly hopped pale ale with a bit of glucoamylase to make the brew super dry. Sharp and sweet, dry and fruity. A spritzy fizz and a very Royal Purple colour. But honestly, HUGE BLACKCURRANT flavours. It's packed to the brim with them. It's epic.
HANSSENS OUDBEITJE, 6%, BELGIUM
The legendary wild strawberry brew that is made in the summer season by adding the wild fruit to Lambic and letting “them get on with it.” You get a brew that is all strawberry on the nose but when drunk has a sharp sour body with virtually no carbonation. The aftertaste though is a thing to behold with every breath out the strawberry flavours get more intense, until you take another sour swig that is.

Controversial but spot on! Never EVER Frozen! We freshly cut Agria potatoes, cooked skin on at 130 degrees then cooled, then refried at 180 degrees. Served with Belgian-style mayo.

One of the original Oktoberfest beers and also one of the most loved. Paulaner Oktoberfest is a rich, full-bodied amber lager with notes of caramel, cracker, lemon and soft, green grass. Despite being 6% it drinks like a classic German helles – ultra smooth with just enough bite on the finish to clean the palate – but has the added depth from the caramalts. This seasonal classic is genuinely brewed within the city lim...its using water from the well that must be used for a beer to be served at Oktoberfest in Munich.

Berliner Weisse-style dry hopped sour with orange zest. This easy drinking sour was created with good friends Magic Rock Brewing from Huddersfield, UK. Refreshingly bright and pleasantly tart, with distinct orange notes from fresh orange zest added in the whirlpool and Mandarina Bavaria hops used in dry hopping.

The 4th and final summer session can release of 2018, this time brewed in collaboration with Unity & Verdant. This white IPA is brewed as a fusion of classic Belgian brewing and the progressive NEIPA techniques. This is the best of both worlds.
MAGIC ROCK X AGAINST THE GRAIN EL GINGERO, 7.5%, UK/USA
A collaboration with Against The Grain, of Louisville Kentucky. A full bodied oatmeal stout, featuring a complex malt bill and smooth mouthfeel. Fragrant and spicy stem and whole ginger were added throughout the brew along with orange zest and dried orange peel.

This is my favourite dining and drinking spot in Southsea. After visiting multiple cities in Belgium this still remains my favorite place for Belgian food. Everything is made fresh and the portions are just perfect. I think I 've tried all their menu, but my fav starter is Camembert with their homemade onion chutney which is lovely and Carbonade as a main🍻

My children brought me here for a “miss the crowds”, early mother’s day treat and what a treat it was. Really friendly and helpful staff. Amazing choice of beers. Lovely ambiance and funky comfortable feel about the place. Lastly the food, how can something so simple be so tasty. We all chose the Croque Madame and it was delicious. I need to make room for a starter or pudding next time! Really lovely couple of hours spent there.

Just had a beautiful three course meal at HUIS after winning their competition for a meal for two.. the food was amazing, generous portion sizes and so, so tasty! The beer selection is also very good and we worked our way through some of the fruity selection, all the staff are very friendly and attentive especially considering it was Valentine’s Day and they were fully booked and very busy.. will definitely be back and telling all my friends about it!
