Overview

The Hull Council of Disabled People (HCDP)is a charitable organisation serving the needs of disabled and vulnerable people in the Hull area. It was conceived during the International year of Disabled people in 1981, and opened its centre in 1983. This multifunctional centre is the base for promoting independent living for people with disabilities in the Hull area.

We promote all aspects relating to the welfare of disabled and vulnerable people including education, health and poverty issues which are deemed charitable by law within the Kingston Upon Hull area. We do this by empowering our clients, providing free impartial, confidential accurate and practical advice services for disabled and vulnerable people and other organisations.

Service Offered

The Hull Council of Disabled People offer advice, information and support for disabled people and their carers. We also offer support and advice on benefits and disability. We also offer a gardening service, a decorating service, wheelchair hire, radar keys, I. T training and work experience placements. Our cafe offers fresh, home-made lunches with something different on the menu every day and is open to all members of the public along with our shop where we sell a mix of new and used items such as books, toys, housewares, furniture, electronics, mens, womens and childrens clothing and footwear. Bridal wear, prom dresses and mens smart suits. We have retro and vintage items along with collectable and antique items - there is something for everyone!

Mondays drop-in service 9. 30am-11. 30am and 1pm-3pm but if you prefer to make an appointment please call using the contact information as above.

How To Find Us

We are situated in Hull’s city center on Ferensway (full address as above), we are next door to Debenhams and opposite is Hull Truck Theatre and nearby is the SuperDry store. Please see the map below if you are unsure. All bus routes end at the bus station which is also the train station and also situated on Ferensway. The center is within a five minute walk - just head towards St. Stephens and cross both sets of traffic lights on your right, turn left at Costa Coffee which is on the corner and continue a few shops down and you will find us on your left.
