Just a quick heads up. Due to a massive error by my spud guy we are going to run out of mash at some point and have to go pie and peas until tomorrow.
Really sorry Don't shout at us :)

User

We will be closed Monday 11th june until Wednesday, possibly Thursday due to a kitchen refit.
Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong.

Its time to throw caution to the gods and run the gauntlet of Snapped fan belts and broken Air con, speed cameras be damned! A quick drive over the moors to Whitby where if you have not filled up on candy floss, fish and chips, crab sticks and Whitby rock masquerading as an English breakfast (or worse), your reward will be a Humble pie. A pie so sought-after that the Seagulls will swoop out of the threatening but not quite raining skies and steal it from you. We are ready fo...r the brave warriors who laugh in the face of circling around for 2 hours to park, while paying half a quid to have a wee.
For the lucky few who brave these herculean tasks I have three words.
"WE SHALL FEAST"

Its Good Friday so do what Jesus would of done and have a pie. Despite lots of pouring over the Bible late at night I haven't been able to say for sure that Jesus said this. But I also haven't been able to prove he didn't.

User

We have a brill new Independent shop just opened round the corner from us. https://www.facebook.com/furbellowco/
They offer Cut-Throat shaves ;)

User

We are going to be open today until about 3pm and as a special treat we will be selling some of our pies at a bargain price of £3.50. This offer is because I care deeply about you all and nothing to do with the ingredients running out of time before they must be chucked.
Its obviously a great business move to open on one of the worst days of the year and I expect Sir Alan Sugar to be picking me up in his Gold Snowplough later on this afternoon. So get your hats and scarf's... on and risk being found frozen to death by Keith the road sweeper in the spring.
Enjoy a tasty pie by our open fire with a cup of Yorkshire tea while you muse to yourself "Not today Death, not today........"
But please be safe, I don't want any one star reviews because you died getting to us.

Schools shut in the area. teachers are now hitting the old Christmas drinks from the back of the shelf. Gangs of bandits attacking and robbing people of their milk and bread.... Also we are closed

Should we use this beer in our pies? I opted to give it up for review to a mate. I'm hoping we can start to use some of his products, but for now lets watch him get Ecoli in his shed from the safety of our front rooms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFi-Eu-5u 0k

FAQ Here is a collection of common questions and reasoning behind the very few rules we have.
ARE YOU DOG FRIENDLY. Yes we allow dogs in the cafe, I understand some people dislike Dogs If this is unacceptable you may want to try another establishment. Dog walkers are some of the first customers to ‘get’ the pie thing and without them we would not of made it through those first few dark cold Winters. (Thank you Dog owners!)
... Unfortunate side note:- PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR DOGS UP ON THE TABLES OR LET THEM LICK THE PLATES, 99.9% of dog owners are brilliant but we have had two incidents lately of people pushing dog friendliness to the point that you will be asked to leave.
WHY DON’T YOU HAVE A LIST OF OPENING TIMES. We used to have a sign and the amount of people who start tapping at the sign when you are having a problem in the kitchen made us take it down. We aim to be open at Midday, sometimes we are late, and sometimes we are early. Despite unpopular opinion we are not sat reading the papers and laughing at you while you wait outside- we are really going like the clappers catching up.
CAN I BOOK A TABLE Sorry we don’t take bookings, we did originally and we have tested it since but we are simply too small a place for it to work fairly.
SOMETHING WENT WRONG / I’M UNHAPPY ABOUT SOMETHING The best and fastest way would be to politely bring it to our attention and let us try and fix it. If you are still not satisfied please message me on here and I can deal with 99% of complaints easily. Please don’t run home to shout about it on social media / Review sites without giving us a chance to put it right. When that happens no one gets a satisfactory outcome and you won’t be welcome again.
I'M A VEGETARIAN AND I THINK YOUR HOMMITY PIE HAS MEAT IN IT Unbelievably this keeps coming up I personally think that means we have perfected that pie recipe, if it tastes as good as dead animals. The Hommity pie is the Apex predator of the vegetarian world. Hand on heart there are no animal products in either of the Vegetarian options and Yes the gravy is suitable as well. The steak pie is definitely not and is full of animals.
WHY CAN’T I PAY BY CARD. Just pretend you’re at Beamish and its part of the experience, If you are caught short, please have your meal first then nip to the cash machines on the bridge, we trust you not to run off and I’m a dead fast runner and have big rolling pin called the kneecapper. We have never had to use it yet!
I WANTED A TAKE-OUT AND YOU SUDDENLY STOPPED DOING THEM I HATE YOU. We do Take-outs but occasionally the number of people in the shop and the number of pies in the oven does not compute. We therefore stop the take outs until we can guarantee the people sat down a meal. Bank holidays are quite notorious for this, my apologies if this happens message me if you need to discuss it. (hint if you don’t swear down the phone you can get a nice present)

just walking past and went in for some food I had the stake pie and she had the mince pie and it was beautiful we will be back next year 100%

User

We come here every time we’re in Whitby. I wish I could say something disparaging so I could get one of your fantastic responses but in truth, it’s amazing every time we come!

User

Visited yesterday after reading some great reviews. Such a quirky little place with great food and service and a good price. You get a good portion, which filled me up for the day

User

This is the first time We have been here and OMG we will definitely be back i had the sausage and black pudding and it was to die for. See you next year

User

This is a lovely little place to eat. It is homely, quirky and the pies are delicious! It has a vintage feel playing 50s music and serving their pies on tin plates. You can get a meal for £7.99. I took a young lady in with autism and they were brilliant with her. Very friendly staff. Lots of information regarding the history of the building. Will definitely viait next time we are in Whitby.

User

These pies are far from humble. Excellent food and service. Will definitely visit again.

User

The pies are just the best

User

Smashing food with a choice for every taste. Good, proper food served by friendly people in a dog friendly quaint little place. Can't wait to go back.

User

Looking for somewhere for lunch, hubby and I stumbled across the tiny Humble Pie and Mash and so glad we did! The welcome was so friendly, service was on point and fast and the pie, oh the pie! Best chicken pie I’ve had in my life. Will be sure to come back if we’re ever in Whitby again!

User

It’s like stepping back in time to the 1940s. Even the pies are served in the old style tins and taste delicious. It’s just a charming little place.

User

If you like Pies you will love this place and you can bring a drink from pub across the road perfect

User

I often get the feeling I was born too late. This absolute gem of a restaurant supports that feeling. Simple, relaxed, cosy, welcoming atmosphere and equally simple, excellent food. Not to be confused with hipster restaurants; this is the real thing! 10/10.

User

Honestly, this is getting boring. Every time we come back here we get great service and have fantastic pie and mash. Can’t you just slip up for once so we can do something different and take a star off?

The dogs enjoyed it too, although they were disappointed as the pies were too good to share.

User

Great little pie shop

Best pie I've had in ages, Goats cheese and veg

Lovely experience very quirky

User

First time here and wow what a place, traditional lovely place step back in time. The pies are to die for, served in a tin dish but it makes the place. We all had different ones and no complaints whatsoever.. We will be back !!

User

Fantastic tasting vegetarian pies, mega veggie gravy and yummy mushy peas. Looks like all the family, including the dogs, will be visiting every time we are in the area, cannot praise these higher enough.

User

Cute little cafe with a WW2 theme. If you don’t like pie 🥧 keep looking. If you do like pie, then it doesn’t get much better with the simple things in life. Good choice, friendly service and great food. Then stagger across the road to the Endeavour for half a pint and some live music. Will definitely be coming here again 😊

User

Arrived just before closing to see if we could get any take out pies. We were offered what was left at a great price. Lovely pies I would definitely have again but next time in the restaurant to have the vintage experience. Thank you

User

Amazing pies and cracking value (£7.99 for pie, mash, peas and gravy!). We come here every time we're in Whitby and we've not had a bad experience yet.
