Hunters Bar Clinic Description

PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy is a health care profession with an emphasis on clinical treatment of restoring and promoting normal function and movement, reducing pain by physical means.

Therapeutic modalities used by physiotherapist include manipulative techniques, acupuncture, massage, movement, and electro-physical modalities (e. g. ultrasound)

It has no side effects

It gives you a means to resolve your problem in a positive way

It treats the condition and not just the symptoms as would painkillers etc

It gives you feedback and time to discuss your concerns and queries with your
clinician and helps you feel confident and positive with your problem.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture, originally incorporating traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture is now becoming more widely accepted in Western medicine.

Research is beginning to show it has an effect on some types of pain and hence is a very useful tool in rehabilitation where pain is present as a symptom.

Most patients find it a surprisingly painless treatment. Using disposable, sterilised needles we use it at the clinic along with other physiotherapy treatments for musculoskeletal problems.

PILATES

Pilates changes the way we use our bodies and is a system of strengthening and stretching exercises. It strengthens and tones core muscles, the supporting abdominal and back muscles, and helps stabilise the torso.

This development means that all the muscles are working together to create a stable entity and therefore it becomes easier to maintain correct posture, correct imbalances and reduce the chances of developing problems.

Developed by Joseph Pilates during the first world war it has been brought to the fore in recent times because, ironically, of modern ultrasonic techniques.

He knew that developing core strength massively helped the health, strength and well being of his pupils but now ultrasonic images of spinal muscles pre and post Pilates have demonstrated the increase in bulk and tone of supportive muscles.

TESTIMONIALS

"Many thanks to the wonderful Sheila for her friendly and professional service, enabling me to complete my recent season at the Crucible. The role of Hamlet is physically very demanding and without Sheilas' help the Prince of Denmark would have been bent double and had a pronounced limp by the end! "

- JOHN SIMM, Life on Mars Actor and Star of stage and Screen

"Sheila is so good that I rarely have to go for a second session. Her strong fingers and good advice ensure that I am back to my activities quickly equipped with the knowledge to manage my injury myself. "

- MARK PROCTER; Runner, Mountain Biker, Climber, and Mountaineer (who CONQUERED EVEREST! ! ! - May 2009)

"I have been a patient of Sheila's for the best part of 15 years. In that time she has sorted out numerous aches, pains and strains associated with my trying to play golf, leading an active life and getting older. Sheila has an unerring ability to find the source of the problem and then to deal with it. Whenever I have a musculoskeletal problem Sheila is my first port of call, not the GP. Thoroughly professional; knows her stuff! "

- MIKE WARREN, Company Director

"In Summer 2009 I was committed to leading some outdoor activity groups in the French Alps however due to a trapped nerve in my neck I had awful referred pain all the way down my left arm making it impossible to do everyday things never mind full-on outdoor activities. I had a consultation with Sheila Kellett who quickly and accurately diagnosed the problem and along with some treatment and an exercise programme sorted the issue out promptly. The trip to the Alps went ahead as planned! "

- ADRIAN BOYES, High Peak Outdoor Activities
