We were visiting friends in the area so were given directions to this pub to eat, Sunday and dinner was only being served until 3pm rather disappointed as we arrived at 10 to 3. Had a cold drink in the lovely sunny garden tho and went to look elsewhere nice quaint cottage Inn with thatched roof and plenty of character would have been nice to try the food as it was recommended by a friend maybe another time ,seemed like a nice enough place

Lovely pub, good selection of beers, good food, friendly staff and its dog friendly. Its well worth a visit

me and my motorcycling mate rode down from London last Sunday to various places in Essex we wanted to visit .one of the highlights was coming here for lunch. i had the roast beef which was cooked perfectly,with delicious vegetables and roast potatoes etc.the garden area is huge and beautifully maintained inc.very friendly cat !and this is a great place for families locals and kids to enjoy . staff too were brilliant,friendly and helpful.

Had the mussels here tonight and after 51 years they were the best ive ever had staff were friendly and a special thanks to Kate behind the bar and landlord jim proper proper pub a must if your in the area 5 star plus

Couldnt complain about anything. Popped in for lunch when passing by. Guiness and Stella were perfect as was our food. Lovely garden and bar staff. Good value too!

Negative- I ordered poached salmon salad and the salmon arrived raw, not just slightly in the middle, almost 95% raw, I sent it back and it came back better but still slightly raw in the middle, I gave up and just didn't eat the raw part. My other half a roast dinner, the potatoes were very pale and he said the meal was not that great.
We both used the toilets and they were disgusting, I won't explain any further.

Positive - and who I give the stars to are the staff, very friendly and polite and the pub had the traditional country feel to it.

Suggestions - a new cleaner and chef and the this place would fab.

Terrific country pub. Particularly good in summer due to lovely beer garden. Good beer, decent food and friendly staff.
