Ian Carrick Designs Description

Hi, welcome to Ian Carrick Designs Facebook page. I provide a 2D & 3D design service based in the Eden area. I prepare architechural designs for listed building consent, planning permission etc and can either help you through the process of obtaining the required permission or act as your agent and deal with the Local Authority. In addition I can prepare drawings for other purposes or assist with your 3D design. If you have a design idea I can help bring that to life through 3D modelling and produce a prototype with 3D printing if suitable. Why not get in touch to discuss your ideas.

Next up a handy attachment for my surveyors tripod. This attaches to the tripod using the standard thread. The top section attaches to my laser measuring device and the two parts slide together. Levelling is by the three levelling screws, just like a dumpy level. I can then activate the laser and takes levels single handed. If you need a design or have a design and want a prototype why not get in touch. Please like and share.

The weather's been crap so I thought I would share some bits and pieces from the 3D printer hot bed. First up something I've been working on for a little while. I call them 3D photos but they're a modern take on an ancient art-a lithophane. Nothing much to look at when unlit but once illuminated they come to life. Please like and share with anybody who might be interested. If you would like your favourite photo brought to life why not get in touch to discuss. Christmas is just round the corner!

Here’s a fully adjustable torch clamp that I designed and 3D printed. I have it fitted above my desk to provide that extra light needed when working on intricate pieces. It’s designed to accept M4 and M6 nuts and bolts as 3D printed threads wear easily. If you’re interested it’s posted on Thingiverse, a dedicated 3D Print website. A change of cover photo to better reflect what I do. In addition to producing architectural designs for house extensions, alterations, listed building consent, planning permission etc, I also operate as a freelance 2D & 3D designer and provide a 3D printing service. So if need need help with your designs or have an idea but need a tangible prototype to promote your design message or email me to discuss your requirements. ian@carrickdesigns.fsnet.co.uk

It's been a while since my last post with plenty happening and a steady flow of planning approvals. They're not all straight forward and some need 'tweaking' before approval can be gained. This is an example of what can be achieved with a bit of deternimation and close liasion with the local planning authority. Not standard by any means, this 2 storey front extension has transformed a regular bungalow providing 2 lower bedrooms and shower room with a spacious open plan upper living area. Cleverly designed to make best use of the topography the previous front door links old to new via a half landing mid point between the 2 floors. An excellent choice of materials worked by skilled local craftsmen has greatly enhanced the original and will provide a brilliant environment for a growing family for many many years to come.

A visual of what the lodges will look like. They don't do justice to the stunning views across the Eden valley to the Pennines beyond, and the magnificent Hall.

It's not every day that you get the opportunity to help develop a Grade 2 listed building, especially one that has been so gloriously restored as Calthwaite Hall. I've been lucky enough to have been involved in 2 such projects. Firstly the conversion of an outbuilding into what will be luxury holiday accommodation. Step one completed, planning permission granted. More about this in due course. Continuing with the luxury accommodation theme I have secured planning permission for the siting of 6 luxury lodges in the grounds of Calthwaite Hall on the site of what was the former Calthwaite Dairy. I've added some 'artist impressions' to help visualise the scene but they really don't do justice to the stunning views across the open countryside to the Pennines and the views of the Hall.

Something a little bit different. I was approached by a well known garage on Ullswater Road (http://www.ullswaterroadgarage.co.uk/ http://www.cumbriassangyong.co.uk/ )to see about getting planning permission for a canopy over their existing car wash/valeting facilities. After some research and consultation with specialist manufacturers this proposal was submitted and planning permission granted.
