I’m baffled by the bad reviews on here. Bought a watch earlier in the year, where I received a very friendly and professional service. They were not in the least bit pushy. Some months later, said watch developed a fault, I returned and had it sent away. Barely a week had passed when I had a phone call to say it had been repaired and returned to the shop (all done free of charge). I would have no hesitation recommending this place to family/friends.

Don't understand why the other reviews are so low, unless people just wanted a cheap fix. I had a custom engagement ring made through Ian Quartermaine, who were friendly, helpful and professional from start to finish. Ring is fantastic quality, made exactly to my specifications and no shortcuts were taking in ensuring it was the perfect ring for my (now) fiancee!

The team were flexible in terms of payment, and were always happy to discuss adjustments or tweaks to the design over the months.

Would be happy to discuss wedding bands with the team nearer the time :)

I rarely leave reviews but I have been in twice now and both times the shop owner was rude and obnoxious! Terrible attitude and customer service considering I just had general queries. Left feeling quite upset with how I was spoken to.
Quotes were soo expensive too! E.g.£15 to take a link out of a £10 watch!?? Avoid!!

Took a much loved antique ring to be resized. Helpful, friendly but professional staff. Ring was beautifully resized and cleaned. Thanks to all concerned. Would highly recommend.

Great friendly helpful staff. Wouldn't shop anywhere else. I was helped and advised every step of the way making my special purchase even more perfect.

Absolutely worst service I have ever received. There are numerous negative reviews below and I urge everybody to read them before visiting. I gave my watch to repair in the beginning of February, after countless chasing I then found out that Ian had sent the watch to Radi for repair. I contacted Ian regularly for an update and "next week" turned into four weeks later, at no point did he contact me first for updates, I would always have to chase. After a whole month I finally received the watch, guess what? Rado could not repair the item but Ian charged me £60 anyway.

The rest of the staff are lovely but Ian is nothing short of rude, obnoxious and a waste of time. Please read other comments before wasting your time on this pathetic excuse of a service.

I would not even rate him one star, but I have to in order to post.

I went to Ian after many years of happy quality service as the engagement ring I had been given had developed a fault. I had described that I would like Ian to produce a detailed report on what the fault was, its size and shape within the main dimond with Photos so I could send all of the details to the company the ring had been purchased from. Which is baised in America. After three weeks, £60 and several trips in to the shop. I still don’t have a report I can send off. After speaking with Ian regarding this he then informed me it was not a service he was able to offer even after I had been very explicit about what I needed an why. He then also said the fault had disappeared after being clean. Only to find when I colected it it did still have the same fult and would not provide a refund. The fault in my diamond may be a cloud but I wanted his detailed report on the thing inside my diamond so I could send it to the supplier to confirm if it had always been there or not.

Some interesting comments on customer service that indeed mirror my own recent disappointing experience.

Courteous and helpful members of staff in the main store - however Mr Quartermaine himself is nothing short of rude and obnoxious. On returning a watch, purchased from the store, which had stopped, Mr Quartermaine first tried to charge £25 for a new battery, despite being under the supposed 'battery for life' offer, and then when advised it was not the battery, Mr Quartermaine tried to £140 to send the watch back to its manufacturer for repair - when in fact a call to the manufacturer's own customer serviced revealed the service would cost only £35 even though it was out of its warranty.

Whilst in my opinion independent store owners should be supported wherever possible - this is one vendor I would avoid. Rude, obnoxious, 'rip-off' and disappointing customer service.

Robbing thief. Disgusting customer service. No morals. Terrible craftsmanship. AVOID.

Great shop with lots of unusual pieces. Their repair service is reliable and speedy.
