Valinor our visiting Bateleur Eagle has been enjoying the sunshine. Did you know sunbathing is important to birds as well as people, even the owls can be caught soaking up a few rays when no one is looking..... just as in humans sunshine helps keep the birds happy and healthy. Whether you are a sun seeker or not you can probably relate to her sunbathing posture.... we just had to share 🌞🌞🌞 #summer #sun #sunbathing #thatstherightidea #holidays #daysout #daytrip #thingstodowiththekids #daysoutgloucestershire #forestofdean #birdsofprey #eagle #birds #flyingdisplays #funinthesun #nofilter #posing #visitgloucestershire #visitforestofdean

Tim has been volunteering with us for nearly five years now, so we thought he deserved to step into the spotlight for #VolunteersWeek.
"I started off working with the birds, but gravitated towards the gardening side of things. I knew nothing about gardening, but since then I have learnt so much and it's great to see the grounds develop - plus it keeps you fit!"

For those who visited today and saw Kuli catch a thermal, you will be pleased to know we picked him up at 17:30 from the top of the British Camp!! He was very pleased to see us after his excursion, although Holly could have done without the sprint up that slope! Huge thank you to Rachel who spotted him up there, reported him to us and then stayed with him until we got there! We are very very grateful 👍😎

Peak, our African Tawny Eagle is being retrained and gaining fitness, allowing him to fly for longer and show off even more on demonstration!
Not only do you see the experienced, older birds fly here, you get to see the hard work and dedication that it takes to train younger birds & ensure they're fit and healthy 💪

User

Wow! What a fabulous day. Such an amazing experience, getting up close and personal with so many of these wonderful birds. Absolutely loved having the chance to fly an Ashy-faced barn owl, falcon, buzzard and Harris hawk. Then being allowed to handle so many others. Thank you to all involved in making this experience so special. (Especially Tim who bought this for my birthday )

User

What an amazing place! We have been back to visit within 2 weeks, there is so much to see and talk about and the demonstrations are wonderful! There are so many species and they are so well looked after and the grounds are beautiful. We have been to have a regular day visit and then my husband enjoyed a full Hawk day experience which he found amazing! Well done to you all, we will be back regularly to visit with out little boy again. Xx

User

Went last year as a family and we all loved it. Visited again this year and bought season tickets for my son and me, so we can come back as much as we like. So yesterday was our third visit and we’re still finding new things to see especially as there are now chicks that have hatched! The staff are amazing and so helpful and accommodating. Love Jemima’s no nonsense attitude and her vast knowledge and experience. The flying demos are brilliant. There’s nothing like a peregrine falcon flying within a foot of your head at 80 mph!!! My son had an amazing day and we are already planning our next visit.

User

We had a great day out on Saturday. We loved the shows and were very impressed with the grounds, the staff friendliness, the range of food/drink in the cafe and obviously the birds! Would deffo recommend a visit

User

We had a fabulous day here & found the centre to be really interesting.

It was nice to hear about all of the conservation work being done when watching the flight demonstrations.

Fantastic care if those that can’t be released & great to see & hear about the babies being released into the wild.

Group consisted of 2x adults, 11 yr old boy, 4 yr old boy & 2 yr old boy & we all enjoyed it.

We will return 🦅🦉

User

We came to visit yesterday and what a genuinely lovely day out! We are in the local area on holiday from Essex and came as a very large group of 17 but everyone - from my 2 year old, to the teenagers, to the eldest Grandmother in our group - thoroughly enjoyed our day. We managed to fit in two flying display sessions and the handlers are THE most engaging we have ever seen - they were naturally funny, extremely interesting and gave us a great insight into not just conservational issues and normal behaviour, but the individual bird's personalities also. I'm not even a bird lover normally! The bird vs robotic crow aerial display was awesome. The park was well kept and had lovely facilities. What a place

We will be back.. And want to hear that the hooded vultures have found girlfriends by then! #findsalomagirlfriend

User

Today marks 38 years since my first visit, on my 9th birthday! The heart of the place and the enthusiasm of the staff remains the same and Jemima has hardly changed, although the centre has grown and even embraced cutting edge robotic technology!

Go and see some incredible birds being flown by skilled falconers who clearly adore and respect the birds they work with..

User

This was our second visit and we enjoyed it even more than the first time (and we enjoyed our first visit thoroughly too)! Well worth a visit and a brilliant day out. The staff are very enthusiastic and happy to answer any questions. The birds themselves are magnificent and the flying demonstrations are fantastic.. staying too watch all three is a must (as is buying a cuppa and a piece of cake from the coffee shop.. the brownies are good!) We are looking forward to coming back soon!

User

This place is fantastic. The owner Jemima is a little eccentric but knows her subject and says it exactly how it is when it comes to conservation (my kind of person). The flying displays were good and diverse. The burrowing owl one was very novel too. Another perhaps overlooked aspect regards the grounds, they are beautifully managed for conservation from the well stocked flower beds to the sequence of ponds and the layed hedge. All of the staff appeared to be happy, informed and helpful. It was also great to hear about projects the centre's involved with. Also look out for the lovely army of black labradors who wander around the site, they all appreciated a good stroke!

User

The cost to get in is very reasonable. The staff were really good at their demonstrations. The place is so friendly you almost feel like your part of the place. When finding the place I drove straight past it at first. The the birds are beautiful and amazing. It rained alot when we were there, there isn't much shelter there its a outdoor activity so bring you coats or sun cream.

User

My son had an amazing time for his 12th birthday. He did the Owl experience and had the most fantastic time. They went out of their way to accommodate his birthday and made sure Pan was involved in the flying. Staff were knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic. It's a birthday my son won't forget for a long time. I shall return in the future.

User

My husband, our 1 year old and I visited yesterday, and what a lovely visit it was. Having recently moved to the area from London, we could really see a big difference in how well this centre is run compared to many others we have visited. Admission prices were reasonable and, despite being a sunny Sunday afternoon, it wasn't too busy. The birds all looked in great health and happy in their surroundings...They all had names and information attached to the front of their homes which was very helpful.

Jemima clearly devotes on them all, (and her cute Labradors!) and it was wonderful to see such caring staff. The gardens were beautiful and we shall definately be returning soon.

User

My daughter booked this for my husbands birthday, I wasn't all that keen on going (thinking lots of birds in small cages), well it was lovely to be so wrong, ICBP is just amazing their care and knowledge of all the birds there is second to none! The highlight of the day is without doubt the display, seeing the birds flying freely, with great talks that were both informative and light hearted (assisted by the lab puppy).

The grounds are a pleasure to walk around with plenty of seating to just relax and take it all in, with beautifully kept gardens. Highly recommend a visit :-)

User

Just wow. What an amazing day we've had.

We decided that instead of a holiday, we would go on day trips with our children (14 and 16). It's not easy finding places that are fully accessible to a teenager in a wheelchair.

We've all chosen something different that we wanted to do and today it was my partners turn and he wanted to go and see some birds. "Birds!??" The kids moaned. What is so exciting about birds they cried.

We chose ICBP because it was fully wheelchair friendly and we could fully enjoy our time making memories as a family without worrying about access etc.

From the minute you walk through the entrance you are made to feel welcome and staff were on hand throughout the venue to talk and answer questions.

The love, knowledge, pride and professionalism shown by all the staff and volunteers at ICBP went above and beyond expectations.

The setting and scenery are tranquil and it is clear that it is well looked after with pride. We were able to access all areas with a wheelchair and had a lovely picnic in a shaded area that looked out over the lush countryside.

The birds were absolutely magnificent and the love that the staff and volunteers have, not just for the birds but for the centre and for conservation was clearly evident.

We didn't need an expensive camera to take some truly stunning pictures, some of the birds even posed!

The flying displays (We stayed for all 3) were full of the birds behaving like they would in the wild. There was lots of different species being flown and every member of the team that spoke, gave us a wealth of knowledge and information that will stay with us for life.

Yes we bought souvenirs in the shop

Yes we bought drinks in the cafe

Yes when we bought our tickets we ticked the gift aid box

I would urge anyone to do the same.

Why you may ask? And here it is.. because my children, who moaned about birds being boring, left asking when we were going back.

Any venue, any person, any animal that can inspire my teenagers to put their phones down is worth their weight in gold. ICBP did that

We can't wait to come back again

User

I’m blown away after visiting today. We had a groupon voucher but wasn’t really sure what to expect... or the size of the place! Just wow! So many birds to be in awe over, all well looked after and having flight time. The staff were super friendly and informative and the flight shows were incredible. This place is definitely somewhere to get away from everyday life and instead go and appreciate some incredible species. Lots of amenities on site the cafe is lovely and the food is brilliant! Great find! Thanks all!

User

I visited yesterday with my family and it was the second time I’d been. It is a really fab facility and actually very important for conservation. Lots of lovely birds, fabulous displays!

We also ate in the cafe which was really reasonably priced! And the jacket potatoes were lovely!

Will be back!

User

I really enjoyed my experience day, learnt lots loved the whole set up. It’s a brilliant place staff and volunteers very friendly it’s just a shame I live so far away as I would do volunteering here. Hopefully will visit again and volunteer. Well worth going to see these magnificent birds. A great day, thank you so much.

User

I had a fantastic day here yesterday, My husband had got me the half day raptor experience. all the staff were lovely and full of knowledge and all the birds were stunning to see and watch fly. It’s great to see the conservation that’s at work here too ! Would highly recommend this centre and thank you for a great day

User

Brilliant day out with the family, very informative and enjoyable displays by all the staff. I would recommend a day out here, if it can keep my 5 year old interested and entertained all day then it must be good. We will definitely be going again. Really good seeing all the different variety of birds of prey and learning about them all.
