About Identity School of Acting

Identity School of Acting is the United Kingdom's Leading & Double Award Winning Part-Time Drama School. Founded in 2003 by established actor Femi Oguns, the drama school was formed in response to the need for an establishment that reflected and catered for actors coming from a multi-cultural society. Identity School of Acting strives to provide drama training of the highest quality, while also preparing actors from a variety of ethnic backgrounds for the reality of becoming a working actor.

Since its opening, Identity has received an overwhelming interest from industry professionals including; casting directors and major film production companies, and has become the first point of call for directors seeking the very best in British talent. Identity School of Acting is fast establishing itself as the leading drama school for grooming talent, and its success is a testament to the need for its unique service.

The faculty at Identity comprises of resident acting coaches and a number of external professional theatre practitioners and specialists. All tutors work with their students to explore a wide range of styles and techniques specifically for theatre, TV and film with the aim of encouraging and developing individual creativity and innate skills.

In 2008, Identity School of Acting established a relationship with the Royal Shakespeare Company in which the RSC's resident Voice, Movement and Acting coaches run workshops with Identity students as part of the school syllabus.

Performances are recognised as being integral to an actor's development and students engage in two seasonal productions during the year, both devised and scripted.

Identity School of Acting aims to enable students to:

• Be aware of and use a variety of dramatic forms and techniques.

• Develop confidence and ability to communicate and express their point of view and ideas.

• Know how to structure dramatic sequences in order to convey meaning.

• Build a vocabulary of theatre and drama.

• Create and develop convincing roles in specific situations.

• Explore a variety of human emotions through drama; appreciate the values and attitudes of their
• own and others communities.

• Understand the cultural and social purpose of drama.

• Recognise social conventions and stereotypes and be prepared to examine the through cross-curricular
• themes.

In May 2011 Identity School of Acting was awarded acknowledgment by her majesty he Queen for its unique work and service within the arts.

About Femi Tay Oguns

Established actor Femi Tay Oguns founded Identity in October 2003. After leaving drama school he went on to university where he obtained a joint honours degree in Race and Culture and Performing Arts. It was here he drew on personal experience and longed to create a drama school which would give black actors the platform to express themselves to their fullest.

As an actor, Femi has featured in a number of award winning dramas in both television and film. His credits include: Down to Earth BBC, EastEnders BBC, Strange BBC, The Bill ITV, Holby City BBC, Doctors BBC, Take my Heart Dogma Film Ch4, 100 things you don't know about men BBC, the Bafta nominated Prime Suspect ITV, feature film La Chinoise for FilmFour and feature film Last Chance Harvey opposite Dustin Hoffman. He has also carved out a successful career in the field of writing where his debut play Torn received the MSVA Award for Best Stage Production 2008. The immense success of Torn caught the attention of the Royal National Theatre, where he developed his second play Sponge.

Femi's considerable achievements have led to a series of high profile accommodations. In 2010 he was named as a UK Film Council Breakthrough Brit in the fields of Acting and Writing. Femi Tay Oguns was also named on Powerful Media's Power List 2010 of the top 100 most influential figures of African /Caribbean decent.

Femi Tay Oguns was awarded the prestigious BEEFTA Inspiration Award for his endless contribution to the entertainment industry. Recognising his contribution of ethnic minority personalities in the entertainment of film, television and stage.
