Punk is dead. ... The late 1970s saw the punk movement burn with such ferocity that it changed history forever with nothing coming close to rocking the establishment since. However, youth is a fleeting thing even for the punk generation and now the punks of the late 1970s have mortgages, pension plans and children. ‘Punks on Sofas’ was shot using the people who belonged to the movements of the punk era and at first glance the subjects do not look like what one would call stereotypical ‘punks’. Viewers are encouraged to create their own assumptions, using the objects and props placed within the image and the series aims to highlight the clashes with then and now whilst also depicting how the punks have now become integrated into the machine. The subjects of the images were asked prior to the portraits to find objects and pictures from their past lives as punks and aims to show that although punks grew up they are still punks at heart.
