About Imagined Things Bookshop

Harrogate's Indepdent Bookshop inside the Westminster Arcade on Parliament Street. At Imagined Things we see the world a little bit differently. . .

Imagined Things Bookshop Description

We are a proudly independent bookshop in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Located in Harrogate town centre in the beautiful and iconic Westminster Arcade on Parliament Street. We sell an eclectic mix of books across a range of genres for adults, young adults and children. We also sell a unique range of cards, stationery and gifts to satisfy bibliophiles and non-bibliophiles alike.

We think there is nothing better than browsing for your next read in a physical bookshop, and that nothing compares to flicking through the pages of an actual book.

We care about books and reading (we wouldn’t be a very good bookshop if we didn’t after all), and more than that we care about the local area and its people. We care about being at the heart of the community and working with customers to continually improve and be the best that we can be. We look forward to working with local schools and the community to support literacy and get children excited about reading. We plan to have author events and signings to connect readers and authors, and to forge connections with the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival and the Harrogate History Festival. We want to add to the already strong literary roots of the town.

We will have a loyalty card scheme, discounts for book clubs, as well as various competitions and prize draws. We care about being local and support UK, and Yorkshire companies wherever possible. We care about the environment too – you’ll never see a plastic bag at Imagined Things – and we always do our best to be environmentally conscious.

Imagined Things will be thoroughly independent, and offer something very different. We will have a bookshop dragon (and a naming competition once he /she has hatched! ), we will have a number of different competitions /ways of interacting with the shop such as a Where's Wally Hunt and we have a bookshop poem. . .

At Imagined Things we see
The world a little bit differently…
We’re proudly independent, one of a kind,
Delighted to be different with many wonders to find.
Books that never run out of charge,
Stories that stay with you forever little and large.
Books to order the very next day (everything being ok),
Plus cards, gifts and stationery to do things your way.
Always improving, honest and fair,
A local bookshop that will always care.
A world without bookshops would be so sad indeed,
So let us cater for your every reading, writing, stationery need!

Over & Out by Henry Blofeld... Shortlisted for Cricket Book of the Year at the British Sports Book Awar...ds
For over half a century, Henry Blofeld has conveyed his unfailing enthusiasm for the game of cricket as a much loved broadcaster and journalist. His characteristically patrician tones, overlaid with those of the bon viveur, have delighted listeners to the BBC's Test Match Special where the personality of the broadcaster comes second only to a deep knowledge of the game and its players. With his engaging conversational tone it is easy to see why listeners feel as if they are actually at the Test match watching in Henry's friendly company.
Now that 'Blowers' has decided to declare his TMS innings closed, his book reveals the secrets of life in the commentary box and of the rich cast of characters with whom he shared it, from the early days of John Arlott and Brian Johnson to Aggers and new boys Boycott, Swann, Vaughan and Tuffers. Henry is equally revealing of his own performances and self-deprecatingly recalls his several verbal misfortunes while live broadcasting.
Like the greatest commentators and writers on the game Blofeld has always understood that there is a world beyond the cricket field. Not forgetting pigeons passing, red buses and much loved cricket grounds, Henry Blofeld writes of his favourite countries, and experiences while travelling, and meeting and interviewing many cricket-loving celebrities. His passionate and entertaining book will become one of the classics of cricket's literature.
Biographical Notes
Henry began writing about cricket, for The Times, in May 1962 and in 1972 he started his long career as a commentator with the BBC's Test Match Special. During his career he has written for numerous papers and broadcast for both radio and television for many networks around the world especially in Australia and New Zealand. Between 1991 and 1993 he joined Sky Television before returning to Test Match Special after the death of Brian Johnston early in 1994. Since 2002 Henry Blofeld has performed in his humorous one-man show in theatres all round the country, and later he teamed up with his former TMS producer, Peter Baxter, for more than 250 two-man shows. His current two-man show team-mate is former England off spinner, Graeme Swann.

Wonderful bookshop with some unique books you wouldn't get in the big chain shops. I got a lovely book for my little boy signed by the astronaut Chris Hadfield from here! Georgia who runs the shop is so helpful and can order in anything that is not immediately available too. It is such a special shop

User

When visiting Harrogate this weekend, I called into this beautiful well stocked independent book shop. Not only has it got quality books for sale but loads of childrens wooden toys, cards, gifts and many more wonderful items. The window display is very pretty and very inviting, well worth a visit

User

Visited this lovely bookshop, Imagined Things, a few times now. Bought a few books for xmas presents. This week I asked Georgia for help choosing a particular title, she ordered it for me, and it was ready to pick up within 2 days. Georgia and her staff are very helpful, and I will continue shopping and supporting this independent bookshop as much as I can.😊

User

Never been there, never bought a book from there (yet - I'm waiting for payday!!), but I love that this store has gone from almost nothing to a national treasure in a couple of weeks...and it's down to social media....and that deserves praise.

User

Lovely shop who go above and beyond to order in what you want!

User

User

I visited this lovely store on the opening day to buy a book I thought my two boys aged 6 & 4 would enjoy for their bedtime story.

There was a great selection of books, I chose a Bear Grylls Children's Adventure story. My boys have absolutely loved it, even asking when is time for bed, they were so keen for me to read the next chapter!

I will definitely be back the next time I go into Harrogate for another browse around!

User

I popped into this gorgeous independant bookshop to buy a gift (iincluding a card made here in Yorkshire!!!). Whilst processing my transaction, my 7 week old son started to cry to be fed. Georgia was extremely kind and asked if I wanted to sit and feed him in the shop to one side. Not only did I recieve wonderful customer service, but I have never felt so welcome in a shop.

I highly rercommend this lovely shop, not only do they sell a wide range of books, but a fantastic choice of gifts for all ages including traditional wooden toys.

User

I just visited yesterday and l already love this shop. The lady there is super friendly and knowledgeable. Amazing editions, both for children and adults, pretty little things like necklaces, charms ans cards, bought few books and really enjoyed it overall. Will became a regular :)

User

Great to have an independent bookshop in stuffy old Harrogate at last. They sell all the bestsellers you'll get at Waterstones or WHSmith, but if you have a browse around you'll find a whole load of innovative alternative books that the big retailers refuse to stock. Go on...take a chance with something new!

User

First visit today , got lots of help, information and advice on lots of the books- Georgia really knows about her products, chose three fantastic books, really looking forward to expanding my literary knowledge and realising new authors
