Cheap fabrication provided access to the market for thousands new brands. More than 1500 are using the “Swiss Made” logo which is not necessary a proof of quality, especialy for those companies who substitute quantity for quality.
Marketing communications with the strong influences of the internet are creating disinformation mainly about the quality. That’s why for potential clients can be really difficult to find a watch where the quality is equal to the price, originality and origin.
Unfortunately it is very simple to spend money for an overpriced product, which I see on everyday basis. People are unconsciously spending money believing they are buying quality, luxury or even exclusivity which is most of the time far from truth.

The winners of the annual WatchStars awards have been announced. The winners were chosen by an independent panel of 80 international experts. Against a staggering field, the Grand Seiko SBGW253, the limited edition Recreation of the First Grand Seiko, won the 2018 Watch Stars award for “Classic Stars,” The finalists for this category included three-hand watches from Cartier, Breguet, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Omega, Panerai, and Rolex, among others. Grand Seiko, for the uninitiated, ...was borne out of Seiko’s pursuit of creating “the ideal watch” – a beautifully handcrafted timepiece that would be durable, legible and with higher chronometric standards than Swiss watches. The first Grand Seiko model was unveiled in 1960 with a hand-cranked movement, Caliber 3180. The watch sold for ¥25,000m, which back then was equivalent to two months’ salary of a college-educated professional. Though the first model had “chronometer” on the dial, Seiko removed this designation since these watches were tested at a standard GREATER than those followed by the Swiss industry.Developed and produced in-house, the 9S64 is a 24-jewel movement which uses Seiko’s proprietary Spron 510 mainspring alloy that guarantees a power reserve of 72 hours when fully wound. Typical of all Grand Seiko movements, the 9S64 is a beautifully decorated movement and has a variation of -3 to +5 seconds per day, tighter than Swiss chronometric standards. The GS weren't given a full international launch until 2010 – before then, becoming a Grand Seiko owner meant either a trip to Japan or buying from third party re-sellers.
