In The GLASSroom is a hot glass blowing studio, established by Fiona Calderwood and Rachel Symes, based at Burwarton in the Shropshire countryside. This calming and inspiring environment is the perfect setting to experience glass making.

The In The GLASSroom team; Fiona and Rachel provide an individual, high quality and fun learning experience. In The GLASSroom offers courses for all ages and abilities. The courses are half, full day or two day and a blow your own bauble. Experience the thrill of creating your very own pieces from this engaging material which will be yours to keep and treasure.
In The GLASSroom Designs, ITGD, is our collection of handmade blown and kiln formed glass. An innovative and commercial collection, using mixed media and lighting, developed, designed and made by Fiona and Rachel.
We are mobile! We can bring a pop-up hot glass studio to the venue. This has been achieved by using a portable furnace called the minimelt. This is ideal for visiting schools, attending festivals, fayres and corporate events.
Schools: In The GLASSroom in the classroom. We tailor each experience to the specific needs of the school. This can range from a demonstration presented to the entire school, a single class getting involved with glass making, a small group getting hands on experience and one to one tuition.
This can be a day experience or a term length project .
We can take on commissions creating distinctive, unique installations that have a special meaning to your school. In The GLASSroom naturally incorporates the core curriculum subjects of English, science and maths. In addition it involves other subjects including, history, technology and art & design. There can also be many therapeutic advantages to the art of glass making which improves self confidence, sense of achievement and develops fine motor skills.
Practical & Independent Skills:
In The GLASSroom works with alternative provision education establishments and other referrals. We offer term time half and full day courses and term long programmes.
These courses will be person centred and aim to develop:
Independence, life and work skills, behavioural management, functional, practical, social and learning skills, health and safety, well being and self esteem.
