Power Jerk: furthering my aims to pull off Olympic lifting without looking as if I'm about to fall over constantly!

Parvinder came to the gym to lose 5kg of body fat, improve upper body strength and increase proprioception. In the month that we have been training together she has lost 2.4kg, learnt the fundamentals of barbell training and built up her core strength. Now a regular at Sunday's circuit class, with the intention of training 5 days a week and mastering handstands, I have no doubt that she will hit all her goals in the upcoming months. Consistency combined with smart training and nutrition will always produce results! Best of luck to Parvinder in her future efforts!

Alan Watts: The Way of Zen
When training to improve yourself, don't just focus on that end goal, for once you reach that goal another will take its place and so on and so on. Enjoy the moment. Get pleasure from simple activity. Embrace fitness not for some idealized future "YOU" but for your present self!

After a hard cardio session it's necessary to get carbs into the body: free -range chicken Rogan Josh curry with egg-fried rice. All cooked in the kitchen in under 30mins!

If there was one piece of gym equipment that you never regret buying... It would be a good pair of lifting shoes. If you feel unsteady on those big lifts it could be because the sneakers you are wearing were designed for the mall not the gym. Swap them for some Olympic lifting shoes, get some feedback on your form, and never look back!

Practicing New Skills: Clean & Push Press
Never too old to learn new tricks: a little forward lean in the hole, and could do with faster footwork, but a step in the right direction towards mastering the Olympic lifts. No finer example of a sport to help develop power and strength!

It's very easy to get your hands on cheap, processed foods. A quick phone call, a walk down the high street, wham bam, eight chicken nuggets ma'am! When you're run ragged and just don't have time to eat let alone cook a meal, nutrition is always the first thing that deteriorates. Don't let that happen to you! Give yourself the time to buy quality ingredients, the time to prepare a meal and the opportunity to eat it with your loved ones. You might not notice the difference at the moment, but in the long run your body will thank you for it...

When pull ups are just not enough to get that back pump!

Just going to show how dedication, commitment to a nutrition plan and putting in the hours in the gym can pay off. My wonderful client Najwa, in the month that we have been training together, lost 4.7kg, 4 inches around the waist and 2 inches around the hips. She went from getting dizzy and having to sit down and rest mid-session, to telling me that I wasn't pushing her hard enough! Now with a detailed workout plan of her own, she's getting ready to take what's she learnt to the next level. Working hard and smart gets results!!!

A good look at how to adapt existing programs to keep progress sustainable. A lot of the advice is transferable to any goal you have in the gym.

As often as we're encouraged to exercise slowly and focus on the mind/muscle connection... on occasion and when necessity demands it.... going all out, pedal to the metal, is the aim of the game!!!

Anybody who knows me, knows I preach the merits of squatting to the heavens! Yet doing the same exercise without progression leads to a stalling of your gains. Banded squats make the bottom of the movement easier, allowing you to increase the weight and attack your quads... If it's glutes you're after, just reverse the bands, tie them to the rack's undercarriage and prepare yourself for a shock to your system!
