***STRIKE ACTION CANCELLED***
Monday's planned Ipswich Buses strike has been cancelled.
This is a joint statement from Unite the Union and Ipswich Buses:
... Following talks today between Unite the Union and Ipswich Buses, the strike planned for Monday 10th October has been cancelled.
Unite regional officer Steve Linger said: “We have achieved an equitable settlement on the pay for the lower paid third of the drivers. As a result, Unite’s drivers at Ipswich Buses won’t be going ahead with Monday’s 24-hour strike and will be working normally.
“We hope to continue to work in a constructive fashion with the management in the future for the benefit of the company, its workforce and the travelling public.”
Jeremy Cooper, MD of Ipswich Buses, said: “We are pleased we have been able to avert this strike and that our customers will receive a normal service on Monday. Like Unite, we look forward to working constructively with them on any future issues.”

Ipswich Buses Emergency timetable on Monday 10th October
Should industrial action by Unite the Union go ahead as advised on this date the following arrangements will apply:-
No buses will run on routes X1, 4, 11B, 12, 14, 16, 17, 19, 38, or 202.
... A normal timetable will apply on schoolday routes 11A, 18A, 501, 502, 914, 988 and all Carter's Coaches routes (92-96 etc). A slightly altered timetable will apply on route 98/98A.
Park and Ride will operate approximately every 30 minutes. We intend to provide buses on routes X3, X5, 6, 6A, 8, 9, 10, 13, 15 and 15A. In some cases we hope to provide buses every 30 minutes between 0700 and 1900, but we may in fact have to run only once per hour if none of our drivers attend for work. The emergency timetable will be available on our website shortly.
There will be no departures from Tower Ramparts after 1900. We will use double-decker buses on all passable routes so that we can move as many people as possible.
There will be a standard fare of £1 for all journeys - passes will be valid as usual.
We understand that Suffolk County Council is endeavouring to make alternative arrangements for rural school contracts and subsidised rural services which are not mentioned in the notes above and which we normally provide for SCC.

Ipswich Buses has been negotiating with Unite the Union to resolve a pay dispute and is committed to continue talks. But the union has announced it will take one-day strike action on Monday 10th October. Ipswich Buses is making plans to run a restricted emergency timetable but cannot guarantee the running of any service. We intend to publish our emergency plans on Wednesday.

For all the runners taking part in the Ipswich Half Marathon, why not pop on one of our buses for £1 single fare. Just show your running number or entry form to the drive. Good Luck!!!!

The number 8 is a fabulous service. Buses are pretty much on time and the drivers are mostly friendly. One particular driver deserves singling out especially. My daughter, her friend, and I were waiting at a bus stop for half an hour the other day, not one bus appeared. Three went by in the other direction, much to our annoyance. The driver of the third bus, came across and explained that we were standing at a bus stop that had been disused for 2 years! He then advised us to get on his bus and dropped us at a stop that was in use. This driver went out of his way to help us, he's a !

User

Got the bus at 9:14 asda today, the lady driver was lovely spoke to all the customers and was friendly and knew some people on first name terms, haven't used public transport for 2 yrs and can say it was great that someone knew customer service. My only issue is that it costed me £1.90 to go from asda to red lion. But to go the same way back only costed £1.50!

User

What is happening with the 6 route? Tuesday one was cancelled and I've just waited 25 minutes in the cold for another one that didn't bother to turn up. Not bad weather so what is going on please?

User

today i got the bus and the driver had ago at me as i didnt have change all i had was £10 as thats what i had in the bank, he was rude to me and made me feel uncomfortable baring in mind im 26 nearly 27 weeks pregnant and he also made me hurt my wrist as he shoved my ticket in my hand after the way he spoke/treated me ive decided to report it just incase he does it to someone else as i wouldnt want that to happen

User

mate you made the fucking timesheets and your buses are never on fucking time. Will the bus show up? Will it not? It's like a fucking lottery, not a fun one either.

User

You need to have a word with your bloody staff about customer service!!! Ever since you have your contactless payments put in I've been shouted at and even just now had my hand shoved away twice because I've went to put my card on too early, I do not use your buses to get verbally and physically abused by your staff just because they are impatient! Sort your staff out! Completely unacceptable!

User

When your mum and 2 old lady’s get on the bus and are shouted at to hurry up as she is 15mins from Ipswich hospital. Then as soon Mum tapher bus pass driver drives off sharp which made my mum (full of arthritis) fall on top of the other 2 old lady’s whom hadn’t sat down yet. Then continue to have a go at everyone else getting on the bus. My mum got home in tears after a emotional visit to hospital is not acceptable. Driver was female blonde with foreign accent number 5

User

Very disappointed! What’s the point to have timetables if the buses almost never come on time. And I’m not talking about 5-20 minutes delay. If I have to be somewhere on time, trusting bus services is a big mistake.

User

Very cross and disappointed an Ipswich bus driver refused to bring my 15 year old home as apparently the Passport photo on his phone was not enough to prove his age. Even though it had a photo of him and his date of birth on it ?!

He only had enough for a child ticket home but the bus driver refused and left him in the dark at 9pm in town AFTER he had taken his money....unimpressed is an understatement!

User

Ridiculous that I have to be at a bus stop at least 5mins early as you're buses love to leave before it's meant to. I've missed two buses this morning... walking upto number 6 2mins before it's due and it drives past! Then get to an x3 stop 1min before it's due and it's half way down the road in traffic and already passed this stop! So now I will be 10mins late for work and I have to sit in the cold for 15mins! I've complained before but the disgusting attitude I get off the women that work there is so unprofessional and I would love to take a complaint further above their nasty opinions and service

User

My son tried to board a bus this morning on the Electric house and despite telling the driver where he wanted to get off,he replied that unless you specifically say where you want to get off,I can't let you on the bus.

He has done this journey many times.

He is a quiet lad and not very confident with such things,so needless to say I would imagine that has put him off using your buses for good.

He had to walk all the way home, after that embarrassment, which is a good hour long walk.

I guess you can afford to lose customers these days.

User

I've tried calling your company for the best part of 1hour.... I have been sat in the freezing cold since 2:05 waiting for your bus... i needed to be home to collect my daughter from school....I have not moved from the stop because I thought maybe you were just a few minutes late like every bus is lately. The service is terrible on the bus and on your call centre.... if I didn't need your buses to get to and from work believe me I'd stop using them. I've been a loyal customer for over 10years no more

User

I really had enough from your drivers. Not professional really rude behaving with your passenger. I won't use your rubbish service anymore.

User

I grew up with my dad's old tales of being a bus driver, so I've always had a bit more sympathy and understanding. I can accept drivers not always going the right routes, as they're being rotated between which routes they do.

But failing to plan ahead for any weather event, traffic, or holiday ends up with me shivering outside in the cold waiting for a bus for an hour, finally calling my girlfriend for a lift - and then three buses descending at once.

I've had some drivers be wonderfully friendly, and wait for me at a stop as they saw me sprinting up - and had others speed off two minute early from the stop as they see me approaching. I've stood in cold drizzle and watched a driver sit at the bus stop, "On Break" and refusing to let me in until he's off break, 15 minutes later.

Seriously Ipswich Buses, I have frequently reconsidered the wisdom of not learning to drive, trying to rely on more environmentally friendly routes. If you had ANY competition for the same routes (Such as First Buses), I would be interested to know how quickly you improved or lost customers.

After all this complaining, I have one suggestion for you. It wouldn't even involve fixing your godawful schedule. Simply install GPS trackers on each bus, and have a smartphone app available that SHOWS you where the trackers are for each route. Then I could decide if it was worth shivering outside work/Waitrose for another 45 minutes, or whether I should go back inside until the bus is nearer.

User

I am absolutely fuming!! How can Ipswich buses justify charging a child £1.20 to travel 3 stops and an adult £1?? I queried it with the bus driver and he said it was always a standard price for a child. I said I’ll pay for two adults then and he wouldn’t let me! It’s bad enough paying £1.20 to get them into town.

User

Get a taxi or bike! Too expensive for the completely unreliable service. If you need to be anywhere on time don't use these! And then there's the rude driver's who make the good ones look bad!

User

Feel I have to write something as a friend of mine who has a 6 month old baby who uses the bus. Has been told twice within 2 weeks to fold her buggy up to allow people who have toddlers in buggies on the bus. She is by herself and has a pram she then has to put her baby on the floor of the bus to fold the pram up or give her baby to a complete stranger to hold. Not the bus driver or even a passenger helps her out... In infuriates me that she has to do this over the people who has toddlers in buggies who can get out and go and sit on a seat!!!! She has been unwell herself and is to nice to say something. I find this absolutely disgusting that not one person helps or even the driver to ask her to do this regardless if she gets off a few stops down the road etc when she has a 6 month old baby asleep in the pram. She wouldn't mind doing this to help people but not one person helps her then this also results in holding the bus up! Bloody ridiculous

User

Camera filmed 4 year old girl sitting on seat showing under wear for all passengers to see on screen. Driver suggests film is kept for 3 months. Guess will have to wear trousers when travelling on Ipswich buses as even PEDOPHILES travel on buses.

User

Been using Ipswich buses for years and today I attempt to board the number 9 at 17-05 at the main station at sailmakers. The driver had not moved but the doors were closed. He looked straight at me and with a smug smirk just pulled away.

Is this the kind of service you deem worthy for your customers?

Do your drivers have any people skills training at all?

The actions of that one inconsiderate more interested in having a smug little power trip rather than providing the kind of service your patrons deserve has led me to write this glowing review for everyone to see
