Don't forget it's the Ipswich to Felixstowe Historic Vehicle Run on Sunday 5th May... vehicles gather in Christchurch Park, departing 11am, and gather on and around Felixstowe Prom at lunchtime. Over 500 shiny motors to enjoy, all over 30 years old. No admission fees either, it's free to watch at either end or en-route. Routing is via Westerfield Road gate from the park, Colchester/Heath/Bixley/Felixstowe Roads, Ald A45, through Trimley villages and Walton High Street to Felixstowe prom.

Thanks to everyone who came and saw us on the Cornhill today... it brought back memories for many of us! Remember we are open 1pm to 4pm Monday - Thursday, then 11am to 4pm on Good Friday 19th, Saturday 20th, and Sunday 21st. Our Easter Special event, the Easter Egg Hunt, is on Bank Holiday Monday 22nd April.

All being well, we should have a few vehicles on display on the Cornhill tomorrow - Sunday 14th April - including the Pauls Scammell Scarab. So if you are in town, pop along, say hello and grab a 2019 leaflet. The museum is open 11 'till 4 as usual too.

On 2nd April, our Co-Op coal lorry restoration team were able to test the refurbished electrical system and motor. This major milestone is shared here for your enjoyment and appreciation. If you thought battery power was a recent innovation, we are talking 1951 here. What clever volunteers we have!

A fascinating vehicle, which visits the museum regularly, is 90 years old. TE7870 is lovingly cared for by our friends at Buckland Omnibus Company, and will be taking part in the Ipswich to Felixstowe run on Sunday 5th May.

Ipswich Transport Museum are delighted to receive a £500 gift from the East of England Co-Op, thanks to their public token scheme. Museum volunteers recently attended the Ravenswood store in their 1954 Dennis F12 fire engine, where the cheque was presented by store manager Ruby Begum. Receiving the cheque on behalf of the museum on 6th Febraury, Chairman Bob Mellor said ‘We are grateful to the Co-Op for their donation which will be used to assist with the ongoing conservati...on of our museum vehicles. We have several ex Co-Op vehicles in the collection, including a battery electric coal lorry which is currently undergoing major restoration’. Ipswich Transport Museum re-opens for the 2019 season on Sunday 17th March 2019. The Museum, in Cobham Road, will open on Sundays and Bank Holidays 11am to 4pm until 1st December, and Monday to Friday afternoons in the Easter, Summer and Autumn school holidays. Full details are on the Museum’s website.

Well worth a visit. Hats off to all the volunteers that look after the vehicles, the facilities and the visitors. We had a lovely visit there today and a nice coffee in the cafe. Thankyou.

User

We enjoyed free ride with old bus through town. And exhibition at the museum was excellent. Different type of busses, fire engines and lot more to see. Our 2 year old son loved train room. Staff was friendly and helpful. Thanks for an amazing experience.

User

Was very surprised, how many vehicles they have. Really lovely to be able to get on the vehicles, you don’t often get to do that. The day we went they had a bicycle display. My son got to try riding the different bikes. Including a penny farthing. Staff were lovely. Just a pity our little dog wasn’t allowed in.

User

Very interesting, certainly worth a visit, the staff are very knowledgeable as well as friendly, lots to learn about 'transport' of Ipswich, NOT just the obvious public transport, in the old bus depot!

User

This is a great place to go with your family. It's not too expensive, you can climb on a lot of the exhibits, the staff are really nice and on special days you can take short trips around Ipswich in Classic fire engines and busses. What's not to like?

User

The museum is run by volunteers, full of information and knowledge about the many vehicles that are connected to Ipswich. An enjoyable couple of hours finding out about Ransomes and other famous engineering companies that made Ipswich what it is now and getting on and off buses of yesteryear. If you love buses, coaches, trolley buses, fire engines, trucks and stationary engines...plus bicycles, motorcycles, lawn mowers.....go along and support this Museum, which is a little gem.

User

Loved it. Full of nostalgia. Loved climbing aboard the tram and listening to the talk about it.. smokers and spitters had to sit upstairs!!

Loved seeing an old Chopper bike.. I used to have one!!

Amazing to see how dated ambulances were in the 80’s. Not even that long ago.

Loads to see.

Great miniature train set that you can actually play with! It’s not just the kids that like that!

Sweet little tea room. Inexpensive. Tables with colouring books, paper and crayons for the kids whilst you have a cuppa.

Recommend it !

User

It was very well organised and very interesting. You can tell the staff are passionate about what they do. I liked the model train best and the pretty lamps xxxx

User

It was so interesting going back in time seeing all the old buses and other vehicles. I was particularly interested in the Ransomes and Rapier machinery my Dad worked for Rapiers for many years. He built the Walking Draglines. I am glad the Ipswich Transport Museum are preserving so many vehicles.

User

Ipswich Transport Museum is fascinating. It's not just about transport but a lot of social history from Ipswich and the surrounding areas. It really is a must visit place.

User

I visited the museum yesterday for the first time for the classic bus and coach day. I found it very enjoyable. There was plenty to see and do throughout the day. I shall be visiting again in the future.

User

Had another brilliant day out at Ipswich Transport Museum today. My 6 year old just loves all the old vehicles. Really enjoyed doing the easter trail but best of all was the bus rides.

User

Great little Museum. Really enjoyed it. Facilities were good. Price was very reasonable. Loads for children to see. Took my 10 and 5 year old boys and my 1 year old Daughter and they all enjoyed it. Staff were friendly and had fantastic knowledge. £21 for 3 adults and 3 children. well worth it!

User

User

Brilliant place to visit with so many interesting things to see and do. Even my daughter who was a sceptic was very impressed due to the hands-on nature of the museum. Would definitely visit again during an event day in the future!

User

Brilliant Sunday activity with the kids. So much history packed into one room, interactive and the staff were so friendly! We had a great time, well worth the money. A lot to see.

User

Absolutely brilliant. We visited with our 2-year old for the Buses and Coaches event, and had a fantastic time. The team of stewards couldn’t be more lovely, and were very kind to our son. There are so many things that are great for small children- several vehicles that you can board, a great area with Brio, colouring, and a toy bus, and an amazing model railway that he was able to control himself. We also, obviously, really enjoyed going on a bus ride. This is undoubtedly the best visitor experience I’ve ever had at a museum. All of the stewards stopped to say hello or explain things to us, and there was such a lovely atmosphere. The cafe staff were great at accommodating a dairy allergy too. We will definitely be back for the next event! Thank you for the valuable work you do to preserve our local history.

User

A thoroughly excellent musuem to visit for a couple of hours if your into old vehicles and local history, each year the museum just seems to get bigger and better and it's all provided by volunteers who work tirelessly to keep the musuem up to scratch. The best days to visit are special event days where you can also get rides in classic buses or fire engines too. A real hidden gem of a place.

User

A fantastic hour to spend with the kids when you need a quick past time for them! The staff were lovely and excellent with the kids definitely recommend it.
