Volunteer Opportunities If you are unable to commit to regular voluntary work at the Sanctuary or perhaps not keen or able enough to assist in the yard, perhaps you might consider helping at one of our Table Top sales or selling our shop items when the donkeys make their “personal appearances”? We also like to open our Visitor Centre at weekends and school holidays so serving tea and cakes is another option. We are always looking for reliable people who have some free time so please contact us if you can help the donkeys in this way.

Sorry folks, having a nightmare trying to load a video...here are our swallows (or house martins?) getting ready to fledge, how many are there in the nest?

User

If I keep quiet no one will notice me 💤 The lovely Pollyanne (or is it her best friend Tracey?) having a nap amongst the straw & hay this morning ❤️

User

What is there to do in the school holidays? Hug a donkey (or two) of course!

If you are shopping in Waitrose Wallingford this month please remember to pick up one of their green tokens as they are, very kindly, including Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary as one of their local good causes. The donkeys are always grateful for the support they receive.

User

We visited this morning and it is such a wonderful peaceful place. The donkeys are adorable and there is a great pig there too. I can't wait to visit again.

Thank you to the staff and all you do for these wonderful animals.

We all absolutely loved seeing all the gorgeous donkeys, the staff were so friendly and helpful.

The kids can’t wait to come back xx

This sanctuary made my heart happy today. True love and dedication to these gentle and forgiving animals. It’s a little bit of Heaven. Thank you to you all and to Mr. John McLaren for your kindness. You make the world better.

User

My mum and I visited for the first time today. Met John he made our time here extra special let us say hello to Bentley and Wendy. Will visit again soon.

User

My first visit ever, on a whim as I'd never been to one before and only saw of this place a few days before, lovely place to be. The donkeys were a little shy while I was there but I will hopefully be coming again! It's a little way for me, But I shall be back! The reception lady was really lovely also

User

Love this place so much. It's so peaceful and any place that helps poor abandoned animals giving them a wonderful forever home gets a five star from me ! We met the new baby Bentley this time , cheeky and full of mischief - adorable

User

Little gem of a place, loads of donkeys, a couple roaming free that really enjoyed any attention given and were very sweet. Great place to take kids, free to get in but they rely on donations to keep the good cause going, would highly recommend a visit.

User

John, his family and the team of vollunteers do a great job looking after all these Donkeys plus mules a rather large pig,the odd sheep and goat plus all the chickens running around the place. The team are all polite and ready to answer any questions. A great place all round.

User

It's my daughters favourite place to come. She's adopted chocolate the donkey for almost 1 year now so she will choose another one soon. Such a lovely place for all those donkeys and the work that goes into running it is incredible.

User

It is lovely to see all the rescued donkeys, they are looked after so well and look so healthy. There is no fee to go in, but plenty of opportunities to give a donation. There are a few goats, bantams, sheep and even a rescued pig. An uncomplicated venue and a good cup of tea!

User

Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary is a wonderful place to visit. The donkeys are so friendly and love cwtchs, the people there are also friendly & always willing to stop and tell you more about the donkeys. I have visited more times than I can remember but it's never enough. I would highly recommend Island Farm to all ages.

User

I had the pleasure of visiting yesterday and found this Sanctuary delightful. The young fellow with whom we spoke is the son of the founder and very dedicated and knowledgeable. Little Lucas was adorable. All donkeys looked happy and talkative. I only wish that I lived closer and could visit more often.

User

Hubby adopted a donkey for me as one of my Christmas presents. I couldn't wait to see the donkey at the sanctuary and we visited one Sunday afternoon. The weather wasn't brilliant that day but it didn't dampen our excitement. What a lovely place this is. You can tell that the donkeys are loved and well looked after here and the volunteer staff are so helpful and informative. We sheltered from the rain in the tea room and met Frances a volunteer who has been helping out at the sanctuary for over twenty years. Frances was pointing out the donkeys one by one and telling us their names. We sat down and had a lovely cup of tea with Frances and watched a video that is running on the TV in the tea room. I purchased a book about Pollyanne which tells the incredible story of one of the donkeys at the sanctuary. It is a brilliant book and I found it hard to put down until I had read the whole story. We are going to go back to the collectors fair that they have on Sunday's (and to have another cuddle with the donkeys). They do not charge an entrance fee to see the donkeys which we found astounding as It takes a lot of fundraising to be able to keep the donkeys safe and happy and every pound counts so if you intend to visit please ensure you leave a donation in appreciation of the love and care these donkeys receive from a very hardworking team.

User

Excellent place to work just as much as it is to party or relax during many of the amazing events and shows that this place hosts xxx

User

This was my 2 time visiting here, as it's a good 2 hr drive for us. Donkeys are so welcoming here, not so much the volunteers.....having made a rather generous donation, like I'm sure so many others do also, a friendly few questions about the donkeys would have been appreciated.....just saying......it won't put me off visiting again though!!

User

Having checked beforehand that Chocolate the donkey I sponsor was going to be there on the day & even though I asked where he was I was only told which field he was in! Disappointing to drive for 2 hours to not even know which of the brown coloured donkeys he was! I bought a key ring & coaster but from my many photos taken I don't know which is him.

I haven't received an acknowledgment of my sponsorship from last August so not very impressed with the administration either.
