iSpace Wellbeing is changing the narrative around mental health. It is a mental health and wellbeing educational programme for children age 4-13 + and can be delivered through the PSHE timetable in schools. The importance of children's mental health and wellbeing is well known, as is its link with academic performance. Yet until now there hasn't been a cost effective, whole school curriculum that provides a consistent, engaging and evidence-based preventative approach. iSpace Wellbeing is designed to meet this need. iSpace offers a child friendly approach to mental health and wellbeing education. It addresses all aspects of the child's wellbeing and includes a manual and toolkit on how to encourage children to talk about their mental, social and physical health. The programme emphasises that an effective mental health and wellbeing curriculum should be: • Proactive not reactive: We believe in preparing children for the challenges they may face in life. Our aim is to prepare children with understanding and knowledge, strategies and tools so that they can live life ready. That's why iSpace integrates evidence based, fun to use strategies and tools to help support their wellbeing and personal development. • Consistent: This is key to developing and maintaining positive attitudes and behaviour. That's why iSpace offers a consistent style, language, terminology and materials which can be used at school and at home. Too often parents don't know what PSHE stands for let alone what is taught in the lessons. Through the iSpace programme parents can be a part of the learning. • Enjoyable to teach & learn: We believe wellbeing should be practical for schools to implement, enjoyable to teach and fun to learn. iSpace Wellbeing is led by Paula Talman (Director Compliance Health and Welfare, MSc Nursing Science, Paediatric and Adult Nurse, Mental Health First Aider and Mindfulness Coach) and has been supported by schools, parents, healthcare professionals and children.
