Ivor King are currently working at the University of Birmingham, installing 600mm diameter CFA piles. Our Woltman THW 4019D rig is installing 180 piles up to 22m in length with up to 4m rock sockets into sandstone.
Previous to the CFA piling activity, variable site levels required us to install a total of 134 sheet piles using our ABI TM14/17 telescopic leader rig in order for the piling platform to be prepared for the CFA rig.
In addition, one area of the site was found t...o be contaminated, so we developed a driven steel tube option in order to reduce the volume of contamination and keep project costs within budget.
Utilising our multi-discipline capabilities, we have been able to design and deliver the sheet, tube and CFA piling works with one management team, providing a significant saving on the client’s construction programme.

Our floating pontoons are ideal for survey and repair of bridges, harbour walls, locks, canal and river banks, or anywhere a safe working platform over water is required.
The pontoons are road transportable and can be assembled to create a wide variety of different platforms.
This versatile modular system can be configured to carry plant such as excavators, MEWPS and piling rigs when used in conjunction with Navi Mats.

Severn Trent’s Water Treatment Works at Frankley supplies drinking water to Birmingham and the surrounding area.
As part of the Birmingham Resilience Scheme to safeguard water supplies to the UK’s second city, a new main treatment building has been commissioned.
Ivor King recently installed a continuous sheet pile retaining wall of 91 linear metres at varied retained heights, delivered over two phases in order to facilitate construction of the new building and to provide main...tenance post-construction.
The pile line was pre-augered using our ABI TM13/16 Telescopic Leader Rig to improve drivability and reduce overall vibration and noise during installation. GU27 sheet piles at 8m in length were then driven to level into a stiff clay embankment using our RTG RG21T Leader Rig and powerful MR150 AVM hydraulic vibro hammer.

Plâs-Uchaf Reservoir in Denbighshire provides raw water for a nearby water treatment works.
As part of an upgrade of the spillway and syphon pipes for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, Ivor King was commissioned by Skanska Construction UK to install 10 universal columns to carry the new syphon pipes.
Working from floated pontoons, an excavator mounted Movax was used to install the columns, with a silt curtain placed around the working area to prevent migration of silt caused by the pili...ng process.
Additional anchorage points were provided using two air operated winches located on pontoons and tethered to the opposite side of the reservoir.
Following installation of the 10 columns, 3.2m steel cross beams were lowered between each pair of columns for divers to bolt in place, in readiness to support to a new syphon pipe running up the slope of the dam.

Ivor King installing sheet piles using two of our Giken F301 Silent Pilers working concurrently on either side of a watercourse in North London.
A total of 680 metres of EZ18-700 steel sheet piles have been installed using this silent and vibration-free technique, ideal for environmentally sensitive areas.

We're currently on the look out for an experienced driver to join our transport team. The role is a permanent, full time position and involves nights out during the week.
Working within Ivor King's dedicated Transport department, you'll be required to drive our HGV vehicles, delivering various items of plant and equipment to our own sites, as well as to external customers. You'll also be responsible for supervising the loading of vehicles to... ensure all plant and equipment is safely loaded and adequately secured for transit, to minimise the risk of damage.
The role will require you to have regular contact with site personnel; providing exceptional customer service whilst ensuring all plant & equipment arrives at site safely.
You'll hold a full clean LGV (Class 1) licence and have a valid Driver Qualification Card (DCPC). Holding a Lorry Loader CPCS Card or similar qualification would be an advantage.

Lady’s Walk is a picturesque footpath on the bank of the River Wansbeck in Northumberland, connecting Morpeth town centre with the nearby village of Mitford. During the rainy Easter weekend 2018, 35m of river retaining wall and footpath subsided and fell into the river.
Northumberland County Council engaged the services of Ivor King to install a sheet piled retaining wall in to order to stabilise the land, enabling necessary repairs to be carried out and ultimately for the pu...blic footpath to be reinstated.
Challenging ground conditions, environmental issues and extremely restricted access have made this project particularly complex; access via a 3.2m wide cul-de-sac, with neighbouring properties within close proximity and an environmentally sensitive location.
Using Giken Supercrush technology, we were able to overcome hard ground conditions, whilst pressing-in piles using silent vibration-free methodology, ideal for residential areas such as this.

After 16 weeks on site and the installation of some 750 sheet piles spanning almost half a kilometre, we celebrate the final pile going in at Minworth Sewage Treatment Works, four weeks ahead of schedule.
Ivor King was asked to design a solution to retain and stabilise a lagoon embankment, whilst protecting against erosion from the adjacent River Tame.

Ivor King working on a Flood Alleviation Scheme in East Yorkshire, installing a cut-off wall to reduce the risk of flooding in the historic market town of Pocklington.
Comprising 274 pairs of ZZ19-700 steel sheet piles at 5 and 6m lengths, piles are being driven to level without the need for pre-augering or back driving using our state-of-the-art RTG RG21T Leader Rig and MR150AVN vibro and twin clamp.
Once complete, a flood storage area will be commissioned to regulate the fl...ow of flood water, helping to protect local residents, businesses and infrastructure from future flooding events.

A recent scheme to replace Telford Central footbridge saw Ivor King install a combination of steel bearing piles at 16.5m into hard clay strata, along with 750mm diameter CFA piles to a depth of 22.5m.
The bridge, which connects the station with the town centre, spans a railway line and dual carriageway.
The project was subject to strict vibration limits and adhered to LEAN construction methods, ensuring all pile and plant deliveries were aligned to a pre-defined programme of... work, using our in-house transport facilities.
