A quartet of more merit than can be accommodated in Facebook's limited event title... the wonderful Julian Marc Stringle on sax, clarinet, flute & vocals, a second visit from the equally wonderful (ex George Melly) pianist Jonathan Vinten, and yet more superlatives for the increasingly frequent visitors to the Jailhouse, Steve Thompson on bass and Bobby Worth on drums. Looking forward to a great night of top quality entertaining jazz.

Really pleased to be welcoming the Peter Fraize / Terry Seabrook Group to the Jailhouse this month. Peter is a top tenor player from the states currently on a tour put together by Terry and we're fortunate enough to be included! With Peter and Terry (on organ) are Milo Fell on drums and Jack Kendon on trumpet, so top notch jazz all round. Promising to be a great night so come and support jazz at the best venue in the south :-)

If you thought Cloggz was a big band wait until Terry arrives with the Trees! Really looking forward to this month's gig at the Jailhouse with a bonsai version of Trees.
Trees is the brainchild of Brighton based bassist and composer Terry Pack. With a career spanning more than four decades and including spells with The Enid, Cozy Powell, Graham Bonnet and Steve Hackett to name but a few, Terry has in recent years turned his focus onto jazz and improvised music. His recent mu...sical collaborations read like a ‘who’s who’ of the British jazz scene (Claire Martin, The Cloggz, Ben Castle, Bobby Wellins, Nigel Price, Martin France).
The seed for Trees was planted when Mark Bassey (trombonist/composer and educator) encouraged Terry to take his compositions to workshops, ensembles and big bands. An enthusiastic response encouraged him to write and arrange more pieces and the natural evolution of Trees began.
An ‘unfeasibly large ensemble’ performing an eclectic mix of contemporary and groove-based compositions, Trees is now an ensemble comprising up to 40 musicians (10 in bonsai format!) at any time and is one of the most exciting new musical projects in and around Brighton. Imaginative, fresh arrangements of classic tunes fuse seamlessly with innovative compositions by the bandleader and band members alike.
Be sure to join us for a great evening of imaginative creativity.

We are delighted to welcome back Jo Fooks to the Jailhouse this month, a year to the day! Anyone that was there last year will remember a wonderful evening of jazz with a really engaging personality - so get in there early and be sure to book a ticket.
Jo Fooks, born in Edinburgh, began learning the saxophone at 15. In 1992 she won 'The Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year'. Inspired and encouraged by local Edinburgh musicians, Jo went on to study saxophone at the Guildha...ll School of music in London (1995-99). She also studied at the Berklee School of music in Boston after receiving a full fee scholarship for the summer jazz programme.
After recording her debut album "Here and Now!", the legendary British trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton invited her to join his eight-piece band. With whom she toured and performed in some of the most amazing theatres and venues in Britain. Humphs fun filled and melodic approach to music was to be a huge influence. And through performing in his band Jo also recorded and worked with Acker Bilk and played alongside Tina May, Joe Temperley, Scott Hamilton, Elkie Brooks, and many others.
Jo's other influences include Illinois Jacquet, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gorden, Cannonball Adderley and Bill Evans. Her mellow tone is often compared to Stan getz and Zoot Simms.
