Jamboree

About Jamboree

Jamboree is a grass-roots world music venue and bar hosting Folk, Blues, Americana, Celtic, Mediterranean, Eastern, European, GypsyPunk and Old Time Jazz!

Jamboree Description

Peel black the velvet curtain and step-inside a home-made den of world music with devil may care European bohemia, crackled walls, and mismatched furniture, raucous evenings, flowing absinthe and mad dancing.

Order local ale from the charmingly peculiar bar man, possibly wearing a ripped ladies pinafore with a string of Pat Butcher pearls … and pull up a seat to watch the Mad Hatter’s tea party begin.

Dear Jamboreeers,
Just over a week has gone by since we prepared for the last open night at Jamboree. And it truly was a fantastic send off! Thank you all for making these last nights special.
My mind is filled with memories from the moment it all started to the present. So many beautiful, happy, wild, memorable nights. I carry an abundance of treasures within me. So many inspiring and good friendships have formed within those walls. I'm immensely grateful to have had this ...opportunity!
Jamboree was from the beginning planned to be a platform for artists in an arrogant free zone which welcomes all, broadly speaking. It makes me happy to see that this has shone through till the end, bringing at times three generations together at once.
I want to thank each one of you who came to our nights and supported Jamboree in good and difficult times. Many of you came for years and years and have almost become part of the furniture.Thank you to the many thousand of musicians for your belief, persistance and helping to shape Jamboree. Without the beautiful performers, Jamboree would not have been the Jamboree you know. Your talent inspired me and kept me going.
A thank you to all the lovely and dedicated people who worked over the years at Jamboree. It was often a hard and challenging job running the show (..sorry you had to bear with my strange visual concept and annoying perfectionism!). You all contributed to the special atmosphere within the venue.
Also a huge thank you to the save Jamboree campaigners! Your passion, excellent work and dedication helped me immensely to get through this rollercoaster of a time.
We left a space behind in Cable Street Studios, but here is what will live on, Jamboree's character, put together from the petition comments of all of you:
Artistic, creative, innovative, original, authentic, idiosyncratic, genuine, nurturing, warm, friendly, welcoming, quirky, magical, rare & unpretentious.
Please sign up to our newsletter on the website if you haven't already. It might be the only way to hear about near future events.
And below are some photos of our last day and night on Cable Street, courtesy of Paul Hackett and OpenMinder.
Lots of love and gratitude to you! Rena

Today we say goodbye to our home of almost 10 years at Cable Street Studios. We will do it with an all day and all night festival in the finest spirit of Jamboree - organised, beautiful chaos.
Advance tickets have SOLD OUT, but there will be places available at the door early on. Afterwards it'll be one-in, one-out until the stage is cleared for dancing just after 1am.
The festival will come in two parts - LIVE MUSIC / PERFORMANCE and DISCOTHEQUES
... The live music starts and 3.30, the afternoon line-up showcasing performers from the Cable Street Studios and some very special acoustic guests, including the magical Barnaby and his clarinet music, Samantha & Partner’s fire spitting, hula-hooping and rope dart show, and Velveteen and serac’s sweet folk.
Then from 7 onwards until 1.15 we have Madame Garance Loulou & Friends, the Djanan and Dila Vardar Trio, Whiskey Moon face & Dakota Jim, Fred Snow, Amaraterra, Lost Revellers and Rum Buffalo with roots, folk and dance from Limehouse and around the world!
At 1.15 we have a burlseque show from the tantalising Miss LaVelle, then Jamboree opens out into a clubnight with a double dose of discotheque <3
1.30 – 3.30am! The Des Was A Bowie Fan clubnight: 60s Soul, Rock and Roll, French Pop, Italian Pop, Gypsy, New Wave, Indiepop and Post-Punk dancing to mark the end of a two and a half year residency for Jamboree’s first clubnight.
Expect to hear: The Smiths * The Supremes * Blondie * The Kinks * Dexys Midnight Runners * The Beatles * The Turbans * Balkan Beat Box * The B-52’s * The Cure * The Shangri-Las * Belle and Sebastian * Elvis * The Beach Boys * David Bowie * Aretha Franklin * Amaraterra * The Ramones * The Ronettes * Marvin Gaye * Garance & The Mitochondries * Le Tigre * Jackie Wilson * Candi Staton * Jonathan Richman * Richie Valens * The Temptations * Velvet Underground * Tcha Limberger & His Budapest Gypsy Orchestra
3.30 till 5am DJ Schizophonica! DJ Schizophonica dredges his musical swamp to bring you doses of nihilofatalism guaranteed to have you screaming at your own reflection in repentance.
Help us make it a day and night (and the next day too) to remember! <3

It is with a heavy heart that we announce, just short of our 10th anniversary, that Jamboree will be leaving our Cable Street Studios home.
Our final day and night will be this Friday - Easter Friday, March 30th. We wish to say a huge thank you to everyone who has exulted with us at the venue and also helped us out in the difficult times we have faced, including these past few weeks of ardent resistance. It is not the end, as our community will live on, and we are planning a ...future for Jamboree as we write. We have far too much to let go.
It would be great to see you over our final days, at which we have line-ups that encapsulate the spirit of Jamboree with which to see us out. And please do sign up to our newsletter at the link here to be kept in touch. We will be going out with one enormous bang, and coming back inspired by all the love we've had.
Many, many thanks, and much love, All at Jamboree

Unforgettable. Favourite music venue in London and some of the best genre nights

User

This venue is so special that for years it's the must see place to take my friends visiting London <3 <3 <3

User

The best music venue in London, hands down.

User

Possibly the best live music venue i’ve ever been to in London, along with Passing Clouds and The Twelve bar-both alas now gone...i’ve had many amazing nights here and made many memorable connections over the years. I’ve also forged several great friendships here and discovered some wonderful bands i’d never heard of before...it has an intimate atmosphere redolent of an old French bistro of cafe from another era.

User

One of the best live venues in London. Wins on all counts. Artists, atmosphere, staff, value.

User

One of my favourite venues in london. Genuinely local, authentic, always good fun and nurturing any number of grassroots musical scenes from across London. This place is a unique gem - of the sort you don’t often find in any city!

User

Jamboree is a place for dreamers. My absolutely favourite venue in London.

User

I loved the Jamboree, shame it had to end :-(

User

I love this venue, so much good music great for intimate gigs and wild gipsy madness.

User

I love this venue, so much character and some awesome gigs.

User

Hope this brilliant venue stays in the east end!!!

User

For nearly a century Jamboree has proved itself without shadow of a doubt, one of the most culturally significant venues in the city...it’s closure would mean a catastrophic loss, not only to it’s community of loyal patrons but to global network of artists who rely deeply on Jamboree’s relentless dedication and support.

User

Favourite spot! Always great music, wonderful people, dancing and wonderful staff.

User

Definitely the best music venue in London. And one of the reason because I fell in love for London and its amazing music scene. I hope the venue can survive as it's under threat of extinction. It would be the worste news ever...

User

Awesome music, lovely people, friendly staff, great vibe and even gluten free beer for my allergy-prone partner. Couldn't wish for a better night out.

User

An amazing venue with amazing live music. You could travel the earth but easier and cheaper go to Jamboree and appreciate the diversity and richness of the world's musical heritage. I loved playing there and watching bands there. Look after this gem, it's under threat of extinction.

User

A unique place and the hub of many great things, clearly loved by hundreds if not thousands of musicians and visitors... Have only been/played a couple of times, but Jamboree's important place in London grassroots music was clear from my first experience of it.

User

A magical Place where you can watch performances of beautiful musicians with special styles of music from all around the world!

User

A Wonderful discovery to come across, fantastic bohemian, eclectic music vibes. I recommend this place every time for people who love live music without charging ridiculous prices. Bar staff are friendly and have a tasty selection of booze to offer. Check it out!
