Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to postpone the nurse open day on the 30th June. The event will be rescheduled and as soon as we have a new date we will be in contact. We are incredibly sorry for any inconvenience caused.

With the weather hotting up here are some tips on how to cope:
Drink plenty of cold water – avoid too much alcohol, drinks with caffeine (such as tea and coffee) and drinks high in sugar Wear loose, cool clothing and if you are going out, a hat and sunglasses Wear high factor sun creams when you are out in the sun to protect against burning... If you are uncomfortable in the sun, stay out of it when it’s hottest – between 11 and 3pm Check on friends, relatives and neighbours who may be less able to look after themselves
There is further info about this on NHS Choices: https://www.nhs.uk/…/h…/heatwave-how- to-cope-in-hot-weather/

We are pleased to confirm that the earlier issues with the telephone lines at the Friarage Hospital have now been resolved by the external supplier. However, if you do have any problems contacting the Friarage please call the James Cook switchboard on 01642 850850.

User

We are currently experiencing intermittent telephone issues at the Friarage. The problem has been caused by an external fault and the supplier is continuing to work on the issue.
The problem is isolated to incoming calls (via 01609 779911) and direct dial calls.
In the meantime, anybody calling 01609 779911 will be re-directed to the James Cook switchboard. If you are not re-directed please call the James Cook switchboard on 01642 850850.

Would like to thank the staff on ward 3 for all the help they give my husband while he was a patient on there they always checked to see if he needed or wanted anything even when they were really busy and they also found time to have a conversation with him in between looking after other patients all the staff went above and beyond themselves to make his stay a comfortable one and we couldn’t have asked for better people to care for him and they deserve to be put forward for the nightingale award as they are really good staff

User

The staff in ICU are absolutely fantastic, couldn’t ask for a better team for my uncle to be under the care of. Didn’t get a surname, but a nurse named Sarah who was looking after my uncle one particular day, made my family feel at ease and explained everything she could, I hope she sees this somehow and understands how much it meant too us all. Thank you for what you all do. X

The Antenatal care I received from both the Early Pregnancy Unit and the Maternity Assessment Unit throughout my pregnancy was exceptional. I was in and out a number of times and each member of staff who looked after me were friendly and caring whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism. The care I received during and after my C-section was also exceptional, and I felt I was always treated with dignity and respect. The staff on the postnatal ward were very attentive and nothing I asked for was too much trouble. Overall I would highly recommend to my family and friends. Keep up the good work!

User

Thank you to the endoscopy team who made a daunting procedure so much more bearable. I was introduced to all members of the team by name and each staff member told me exactly what to expect.

My appointment was the 13th of December at 2pm but during the half hour I had been told to arrive early, my observations were completed along with consent. My procedure happened right on time and the staff reassured and talked to me throughout which was very comforting... especially the lovely lady who kept rubbing my back and telling me how well I was doing.. even though I really wasn't as I didn't like it!

Absolutely excellent care from all in the room. My results were discussed in full and I was given a plan of action which was greatly appreciated. I was fully informed of what I needed to do and thanks to the consultant who followed up some tests whilst I was there and found me in the waiting room I am now receiving treatment and feel much better already. I was home by 3pm!

Brilliant, thank you all. Now just to repeat the experience in 8 weeks to make sure all is well but knowing how compassionate everyone is I am not so worried anymore xx

Our daughter has open access to ward 21 and as such we have been a regular 'customer' over the years. The nursing staff really are amazing with us. I really felt I wanted to come and leave a message for the consultant on duty on Friday and Saturday Dr Lal I think his name was. We have met many doctors over the years and I always try to take the time to let them know when they have done well. Dr Lal was fantastic with our 12 year old medically complex child with learning difficulties. It's often a difficult experience for us as our daughter is non-verbal and we have to advocate for her which can often mean we are met with mixed responses but Dr Lal read her notes (something that is not always done). He examined her and listened to us, asked our opinions and made the right decisions which in our opinion meant her treatment was correct and speedy and we could bring her home the next day. Thank you Dr Lal and the nursing staff who took good care of us!

On Friday I was sent to eye casualty suspecting the issues I was having were to do with my eyes . I just want to say how brilliant the staff were in there particularly a sister called Maggie , she went above and beyond with the care she gave me , I couldn’t stand the lights in the waiting room and she managed to find me a dark quiet room to wait in while I was being assessed . I was seen very quickly and effectively possibly due to the nature of why I was there but also because she was so understanding of my pain and discomfort . I was quickly admitted to a ward and Maggie and a lovely hca transported me round ensuring I maintained as much dignity as possible while doing so, she also gave my mum reassurance as this was a worrying time for her also . I couldn’t ask for better care she was amazing and a true asset to the department and nursing itself !

My granddad spend the last week of his life in the ICU unit and then his final night in ward 14. Me and my family are so grateful for the exemplary professionalism and care that was by shown by the doctors and nurses on both wards. Not only caring and making my granddad comfortable but also comforting us as a family, the staff couldn't do enough for us even though they were extremely rushed off their feet. We appreciate it so much.

My first pregnancy, I was hoping all running smooth we were going to be having baby in The friarage hospital, I had my heart so set on my delivery here due to mixed reviews about James Cook Hospital. My waters broke on Tuesday 19/12/17 and unfortunately my contractions did not start so I I was induced at James Cook on Wednesday 20/12/17. I was welcomed by a lovely lady and then shown my bed on the induction ward where my lovely midwife Claire took us (myself and husband) from there, she spoke us through the whole process answering any questions I had without hesitation! She checked in on us regularly, making sure we were okay and didn’t need anything.... As always the saying goes “baby will come when it comes” really did prove true that day... We did not expect for him to come as fast as he did, but my labour came on very suddenly and I near enough thought I was delivering my baby in the bathroom... My husband called for assistance to which 4 ladies arrived and then we knew baby was coming. Claire was so calm and managed to make to get me up and to the delivery ward, and was accompanied by a lovely student midwife (who was just about to deliver her 40th baby to complete her course) at 14.25. Everything happened so fast and by 14.55 my gorgeous little boy was here! Claire was fantastic and had such a calm and relaxing approach, due to it being so fast I had no time for pain relief, to which I nearly gave in at one point but she kept me going. She looked after us up to the end of her shift, she sat with us and spoke about baby, and made us feel so at ease being new parents, we couldn’t have asked for anyone better to welcome our little man into the world... we were taken to the ward, where we were looked after by a lovely midwife named Lynn, she checked in regularly to make sure baby was okay due to my waters breaking 24 hours before, he was observed for any infections etc... she again, helped us with the endless questions we asked throughout the night, she did not intrude and approached when we needed something. (Other than the checks on baby)

In the morning again, lynn was taken over by Another amazing midwife called Kathy, who was fabulous. As new parents you worry about a million and one different things, but my mind was put at ease receiving advice and the knowledge from each and every one of the midwives at James Cook. I cannot thank you all for making our experience one to remember, your care, compassion, and understanding is more than I could have wished. Thank you all for the bottom of my heart.

My dad had a heart valve replacement TAVI procedure on 9th January 2018. He would like to thank all the people involved in his care, from the ladies who booked him, nurses, consultants, anaesthetist and the nurses and auxiliary staff on the ward. Sorry I didn’t get everybody’s names but I hope you all know who you are. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of all my family, we have our dad back to near enough normal.

User

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to the A&E staff who looked after my nan today. She was accompanied by my mum but my nan herself is unable to speak any English (which is always daunting when you need medical attention) and they have expressed how impressed they were with the promptness and professionalism received throughout. My nan fell and subsequently found to have dislocated her shoulder, after x-rays and putting it back into place, 2 and a half hours later she was out and can not fault any treatment she received. Thank you again to all the staff involved!

User

Just want to say a massive thank you to the paramedics, a&e staff & staff on ward 21 who looked after our 2 year old who was suffering with pneumonia this week. It was a very scary experience for us but we were given the best possible care and are very grateful for all the support.

User

I had emergency surgery on Friday evening/Saturday morning and stayed on ward 26 pre surgery and 24 after both wards outstanding staff.

But actually what did upset me was just how busy and overworked the nurses sisters healthcare staff are I seen new faces each day as staffing is a huge problem

With this being a neurology ward it would be lovely to actually build a rapport with staff because I know I needed some emotional support and speaking to other patients they felt the same xx

Well done to all you neuro staff you're all amazing despite being exhausted you made me very comfortable

User

Hi, I was admitted last night following review by ENT specialist at your a&e department. Can you please pass on my thanks to the staff for looking after me, they were brill.

I was put on ward 35 room 2 bed 18. So please pass on my thanks to them both.

Had multiple staff i.e different midwifes, consultants, house keepers, different wards etc and always felt they went the extra mile whilst I've been here no matter what time of the night or morning, been helped in every way from comfort to pain relief and random questions at 3am, brilliant hospital.

User

Can't thank the staff here enough! I was transferred to James Cook after being left with brain damage because of a fault that North Tees hospital had made after months of being unable to walk the nurses and physios on the Neuro Rehabilitation team (ward 26) had me mobile within a week, and after 4 weeks I was well enough to be allowed home. Can't thank the staff enough. They were friendly, caring and professional. Nothing was ever too much to ask. Nobody wants to go to hospital, but if it's absolutely necessary then this is the place to go! Oh and the food was delicious x

User

A massive thank you to all the A&E Paediatric Nurses who looked after our son Henry tonight. Poor thing had been poorly for a few days and tonight we took him to A&E where he was well cared for by the amazing, kind and caring staff who gave us a diagnosis and treatment.

Am very proud of our NHS, who despite navigating difficult times at the minute still continue to provide the best care possible. Many thanks again especially from Henry. xxx

User

Not happy when visiting my 86yr old mother on ward 9 members of staff and a patient was watching the crap england football and thought it was necessary to jump up and down cheering and shouting when england scored, 1st-how unprofessional of the staff do act this way especially while patients are having visitors and trying to rest.

2nd-my mum has a bad heart and the sudden shouting could have caused serious issues..

I will be making a complaint as im pretty disgusted with the behaviour of the staff and that nothing was said..

Pay abit more attention to ya job

User
