This time in 2015, my first book was published 🙂⁣ ⁣ Currently working on number two which is personal growth focussed - really enjoying the creative process so far as it’s a joy to share some of the tools and ways of thinking that have helped me and so many clients through challenging times ⁣

Just started my Inner Child Practitioner Diploma. It’s an absolutely fascinating course combining transactional analysis with Freudian and Jungian thought. One module down just another nine to go!

Confidence building workshops for young people

User

Many young people follow celebrities on social media and whilst this can be fun, sometimes it can really trigger feelings of inadequacy and insecurity.
Young Minds is a really lovely Instagram account to follow especially around exam time when there is a lot of additional stress.
The account is encouraging, full of confidence building, anxiety reducing posts and guidance Mind

Look at these headlines ...
“Get a Love Island body,” and underneath “Why our teenage girls are in crisis.”
... Ummm, Anyone else see a possible connection here??
I work with a lot of young people who suffer from ‘comparanoia’ - A word created to describe the condition of constantly measuring one’s own life against other people’s images and status updates on social media.
Many of the young people I work with, perceive their own lives as significantly falling short when measured against others. They exist in a constant state of not feeling good enough. And it’s not just young people who are vulnerable to this. Many adults also feel the same.
There’s a rise in filters and photo edit apps. And of course these can be fun and harmless to use but they can also foster insecurity around appearance. Some people struggle to post a photograph unless it’s been edited or run via a filter first. But why?
Constantly changing our physical appearance to appear ‘better’ than the real version of why we are, has a knock on psychological effect. We wonder which part of the ‘authentic’ us is ‘good enough’ to present to the world? Comparison is the thief of joy. We need to plough our own furrow, dance to the beat of our own drum and accept every part of who we are.
Easier said than done maybe, but perhaps we can make a start by not running every picture we post, through a photoshop filter and remembering that people only ever post their ‘best bits’ on social media.
We are NOT inadequate in anyway. Each of us is precious, unique and valuable. We need to learn how to embrace our quirks and characteristics, not filter them away into generic, homogenised blandness!
