About Me

Seven years ago I was a freelance graphic designer, toiling away in my spare room designing children's books about diggers and fire engines. One day an advert in the local freebie paper caught my eye about a half-day a week course in silversmithing. When yet another commission came through about tractors, I decided the course would be a welcome distraction. A year later, I was a fully fledged metal addict and signed up for a one-day a week course, I had found myself space in a local studio, away from the computer and vehicle books. In 2009 I rented a shop on our local high street, and with 5 talented crafts people, we sell our wares, and gossip with customers. And there not a giant truck book in sight.

There are masses of things that influence my work - from the daisy chains my daughter used to make, wild roses growing in my mother's garden and the birds on the bird feeder. I also love (and occasionally stalk) Rob Ryan, Tord Bootnje, Radcliffe and Maconie (I try to get mention at least once a week! ), and the patterns of Japanese fabric and William Morris. In my 'spare' time, I manage to squeeze on to the table that is also the desk and dining table, to create quilts, in the 1930's wreck that we are doing up top to bottom.

All my work is handmade from start to finish by me in my garden workshop in Bristol. Each piece is unique, made to order, and many pieces are made using lace and other textured material to imprint a surface pattern on the sterling silver before I begin to work with it. This means that even when a piece is made many times, the pattern on the individual elements will always vary. All my silver is 925 sterling silver, purchased from Cooksons in Birmingham, the largest suppliers of silver in the UK. Every part is sterling silver, including clasps, chains, earring posts and earring scrolls.

Before and after! Making a pair or limpet earrings. I make a ring of silver, soldered and ‘pickled’ (cleaned up!) and then I hammer it with a tiny round ended hammer. I keep going until it’s finished! Finished is when it’s paper thin! _ _ _ #silverjewellery #handmadejewellery #bespoke #commission #silver #silverjewellery #commissions #noths #nothspartner #earrings #silverearrings #handmadeearrings

What an honour! This morning I was at Bristol City Hall at the unveiling of the amazing quilt created last summer by the women who use, work and volunteer @one25_charity. Last seen behind @sussexroyal when they visited the centre, it’s now on public display in City Hall, Bristol.

Tomorrow I will be at Fonthill Garden Party selling my ‘other’ work! It’s going to be a lovely afternoon with music, food, stalls and an incredible raffle! If you’re in the Frome/Salisbury area come along, as it’s also a rare chance to see Fonthill gardens. All raising money for Secondary1st - hope to see you there!

I love this!

Gorgeous original sixpence coins - with a subtle little handcut initial hanging with it. Silver three and sixpence coins are getting harder to find sadly. Pre 1940 the coins are sterling silver so they polish up beautifully showing all the wear and tear they’ve been through over their long lives!

As you might know, I’m an occasional tutor and recently I’ve been teaching embroidery workshops. I’m hoping to get a small embroidery course started in north Bristol and I’ve had several people sign up. I just need 4 more people to get this course off the ground... so you know anyone who might be interested? Please share with them if you do. All materials are included in the price, and homemade refreshments too. 2.5 hours of inspiration and stitching every week, with yummy cakes and good chat thrown in! Message me for more details.
