Like others in our Smugglers & Pioneers series, Dr. Quartley is inspired by local smuggler or pioneer. Dr. Quartley was the Christchurch surgeon who was paid with a keg of brandy (that’s a pretty good pay check!) – left anonymously on his doorstep – for helping injured smugglers in the 18th century.
Local brewery Eight Arch Brewing Company in Wimborne helped us with this one and Dr. Quartley is available on draught here with us 🍺
Mark Cribb said: “Since the launch of our firs...t bottled ale in 2016 – named ‘Tregonwell’, we have had fantastic feedback from our customers. They love the fact that they are drinking something exclusive to the venues and also that it’s locally brewed.
There’s been a huge growth in local brewing in Dorset over the last few years and we’re thrilled to be part of it. We are passionate about introducing people to real beers, both ales and lagers, made by real people – not giant international brands. There’s better choice and bigger flavours now and we want people to discover this for themselves.” 🌊❤️🍺

We came on a Saturday evening and the bar had a lovely hubbub feel to it. Although it was busy I was quickly acknowledged and served, in fact the server bought our drinks over to us as the cocktails would take a minute to make.

In the restaurant the head waiter seemed to run a tight friendly ship. He was knowledgeable on all the drinks and each dish and seemed genuinely excited about the food. The service was good and the menu varied in both food and pricing so there was something to suit everyone's taste and pocket. We'll be back.... thank you x

The most amazing food, wonderful atmosphere and great service to top it off wine 🍷 was delicious.

User

Thank you for accommodating us on our sons 9th birthday. Food was absolutely superb, excellent, friendly customer service-you couldn't have done more for us-making Oliver's evening extra special by giving the star treatment, including bringing his birthday cake in, candles lit and the whole restaurant singing "Happy Birthday" Fantastic value to boot, we will definitely be back,

User

Superb service, menu and food quality, coupled with excellent local craft beers and hard to find short drinks. And possibly the best old fashioned for miles around (but that's my personal choice)! Definitely my recommendation for the discerning individual looking for something more than the 'burger' most of bournemouth now seem to offer.

User

Really good find - lovely rustic feel bar/restaurant; very interesting and diverse menu all beautifully cooked. Thank you!

User

Popped into the establishment for the first time last night as my usual venue, The Grasshopper, is closed for refurbishment. I live in the same road but have never ventured in before and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff are friendly and we were never kept waiting for service. Next time I'll give the food a go.

Lovely food, atmosphere and service xx

User

Lovely food and staff. Live music was great as was our waiter who kept us thoroughly entertained. If I had to give any feedback, my trout had a bit too much butter for my personal preference. Great place and will definitely be back. 👍🏼

Had to post a quick review after our visit tonight. My 'date' (mum) and I both had the cheese soufflé starter, which was delicious. She had the chicken supreme which she loved, whilst I had the baby rack of ribs, which were immense - loads of amazingly succulent meat, the bones just slid out, and the sticky sauce was awesome.

The service was faultless and the restaurant is very stylishly designed with a great atmosphere for a Tuesday night.

Brilliant. Can't wait to go back.

User

Exceptional friendly staff, great atmosphere and great food. Love the venue. Perfect place to relax after work or take a partner or a friend for a meal.

User

The welcome and service here is great, friendly and efficient. It is a nice restaurant although it was extremely hot on the evening we went. The menu choice is ok, it hadn’t changed much in the 2 years between my visits so probably needs updating. There were 3 dishes unavailable on the night we went which was a Monday so disappointed. I could get it if it was a busy weekend evening. The standard of the food was mixed, our starters were good. The steak was nice and cooked as we’d asked. The mussels were very tasty, but the chips we had with both courses were very over cooked and not very nice, how do you ruin a chip? Overall I was probably a bit disappointed so will think again about returning.

User

Service was great apart from the waitress not knowing much about the beers they had. Seabass was Gorgeous but the Roast Potatoes were big and very dry. We eat out a lot and thought the food prices were okay. As for the drink prices, £12 for a large glass of wine and £28 for average prosecco was expensive!

User

Nice vibes but I was disappointed with my Welsh rarebit. The sour dough bread was sliced very thin and the mustard overpowered the cheese. It was a horrible dirty brown colour which was very off putting . I thought £7.50 was a bit steep for a lunch that didn't really fill me. Oh well 😔

User

Nice turkey roast dinner yesterday. I think the plates could have been much hotter. Unfortunately, my daughters meal wasn't as good. She chose beef and found it to be rather disappointing. I mentioned this to the waiter and they apologised and refunded 50% of the cost of her dinner, but as she hadn't eaten the beef she ended up having a vegetarian meal! Good atmosphere. Friendly, polite waiters/waitresses. I would go back, but I'd definitely choose the turkey roast again!

User

Had a Sunday roast lunch, it was reasonably priced, two issues however were that the roast potatoes were really dry and the meal was luke warm as the plates were stone cold. I noticed that the plates are set on the serving hatch for at least 10 minutes whilst the cook completed serving all plates for that order - Needs hot plates please!!

User

Have to be honest, the customer service is always exceptional, but even that doesn't make up for the food!! Think a new menu/chef may be needed as not the first time I have heard bad things about your food.

User

Food and drinks were great; however service was poor. We had to ask multiple times for orders, drinks to be brought from the bar and finally to pay. It wasn't even busy when we arrived! Shame as there is potential for it to be good.

User

Went for Sunday Roast yesterday. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. £18 for two courses. First course I choose chicken. It came with no Yorkshire pudding and was very small. Not put off I eat it, After I had finished I ask the server about the Yorkshire, As others were coming out with them on the plate. I was told “you do not get a Yorkshire on the chicken roast but if you ask we will add one to the plate” why should I have to ask? Everyone knows a roast dinner is not a roast dinner without a Yorkshire pudding. Shocking!

Then it got worse.

2nd course was apple crumble, the crumble it’s self was very poor soft stale biscuit when I asked about this I was told “I think this was because it was the last one” IF ITS NOT FIT TO SERVE DO NOT SERVE IT.

I was told Jenkins was good. I’m not convinced at all.
