This Terrafirma winch has a powerful 6hp, 12v motor combined with a low noise 3 stage planetary gearbox that gives a massive 12000lb of pulling power. It has modern styling and comes... with a high-quality synthetic rope and both a wireless remote control and a standard cabled remote. The silver-grey synthetic rope includes a rated safety hook and comes with a cool black alloy hawse fairlead.
This winch is finished in a smart, tough stealthy matt black finish with matching compact solenoid pack, with 2 green LED’s that indicate when the winch is live and ready for work. The solenoid pack also has the added benefit of multiple mounting positions to suit your vehicle.

Also, a few things to remember when driving in the snow. One of the most important things to remember is SPEED if you want to stay safe in your Land Rover! The average Land Rover weighs over 2 tons, and with some nearer 3 tons. With a higher center of gravity compared to most vehicles, stopping quickly may not be as quick as you may think!
Pull away in second gear, and if you are driving an automatic, only the slightest of engine power is required to avoid the braking of traction under the tyres.
If you are driving uphill, once again pick a higher gear and keep your distance from other vehicles. Don’t forget Stopping distances are up to ten times greater in snow and ice. Leave even more space behind the car in front than you usually would.
If you are driving an automatic, these are not easy to control the engine power. If you have terrain response, read the manual and pick the most suitable setting
Driving downhill – KEEP OFF THE BRAKES as much as possible. ABS and traction control are very effective, allowing you to steer the vehicle, and keep a long distance from any vehicles or pedestrians.
Brake, steer and accelerate as smoothly as possible. Only use the brakes if you cannot steer out of trouble. Drive so that you do not rely on your brakes to be able to stop.
On motorways stay in the lane clearest of snow, ice, and slush. Keep within the clear tyre tracks if you can.
Keep an eye on where the front wheels are pointing especially if you are stuck or being pushed or pulled out. In many situations, on full lock, a vehicle will still head straightforward in a skid!
Good tyre’s are essential for optimal performance, maybe consider getting some winter tyre’s on your Land Rover.
Clear ALL snow and ice from the windscreen and roof of your Land Rover before driving…

With more bad weather forecast over the next week and the coming months, it will be well worth getting your Land Rover fit for winter. Let’s take a look at a few ways you can take the chill off in the mornings and help your Land Rover run a little warmer.
Built ultimately for off-roading the Land Rover especially the older models aren’t always the most comfortable vehicle to travel in during the winter. Often they are axle deep ...in mud or snow helping a ‘normal’ car out of trouble or you are just out enjoying your Land Rovers capabilities going about your business. However, these utility vehicles when out in the cold also get really cold.
Newer models such as the Discovery and Range Rover perform as you would expect in terms of travel comfort, but Defenders and series vehicles leave a lot to be desired! If you own a Defender or Series Land Rover you may want to consider making it more comfortable to travel in through the cold winter months.

A Radiator Muff drops, or mount over your front grill and block off cool air from making its way into the engine bay. This means your engine gets up to temperature faster and you get a warmer heater quicker! Once up to temperature they can be rolled up and clipped in the open position. Radiator muffs can also be used when wading in deep water to help prevent water and mud entering the radiator and clogging it. They are easy to fit and no tools required!

Thank goodness Prince Philip was driving a Land Rover.
It could have been a different story if Prince Philip hadn't been driving a Land Rover! Thanks to Land Rover's high-quality engineering our Prince walks away just a bit of shock - it was a miracle Prince Philip walked away uninjured at the age of 97! It has been reported the Land Rover flipped onto its side so there must have been quite an impact! The prince had to be helped out of the Land Rover as it had landed on the... driver's side.
There's lots of speculation as to what caused the accident; poor visibility due to sunlight, icy roads, and speed.

Discovery 3 Gearbox Flush
JGS4X4 have had a steady influx of Gearbox Flushes, from Discovery’s to Range Rover’s. They are all reaping the benefits of getting their Land Rovers’ gearboxes serviced.
Gearbox flushed, adaptions reset another happy customer leaves the workshop!... This was purely a preventative measure for this customer as he had read our blogs about how other clients had experienced the benefits of a gearbox flush.
Discovery 3’s, Discovery 4’s and Range Rover Sports with the ZF-6HP automatic gearbox should have a lovely smooth gear change. However, these gearboxes are supposed to be sealed for life so no service schedule includes changing the gearbox fluid. As with any hardworking oil, the gearbox fluid in these gearboxes can get hot and generally worn out.

More bad news for the UK car industry.

BEST4X4XFAR – The New 2020 Defender has been seen testing….
The prototype of the ALL-NEW Defender has been seen undergoing off-road testing in North America as part of its demanding test cycle. The new Land Rover Defender will be revealed within the next 12 months, and most likely towards the end of 2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
What we know about the new Defender
... At this stage, the design and engineering work behind the new Defender is all but settled but The new Land Rover Defender will have an aluminium body built on an aluminium chassis and will utilise parts from other Land Rover vehicles, whilst being built alongside other cars from the range.
It’s not yet clear where the new Land Rover Defender will be built, but JLR UK managing director Rawdon Glover did say the prototype vehicles were being assembled at the company’s aging Brown’s Lane facility.
“We were still using Brown’s Lane to build our prototypes, which not many people knew. But now we have a new facility,” said Glover. “The verification build phase will come off a pilot production line, but the next phase goes into the manufacturing plant.” Further details on the new Defender’s assembly process are yet to be announced.
A new Land Rover Defender family planned The new Land Rover Defender will form an entire family, in much the same way that the Discovery range has branched into the Sports sub-brand. The plan is to offer different models focusing on user groups with a plan to launch with an array of accessories such as roof-top tents and other outdoors-focused options. There has also been a hint of a performance SVR version! This would be developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s newly formed Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division and would allow the brand to tap into demand in Russia and China for powerful and luxurious rugged off-roaders.
It looks like the Defender will live on after all…

This handy device is especially handy if you have a Discovery 3 with faulty or failed heater plugs that refuse to start in cold temperatures. The auxiliary fuel burning heater on the Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport models only worked whilst the engine is running at temperatures below 5 degrees to enable the engine and interior to heat up quicker.
The heater is triggered using one of two main options. The first is your Land Rover original key fob using its 3rd button when it’s set to control the follow me home headlights function as seen in your handbook pages 35 & 36, or the secondly by sending an SMS text message. (sim card must be installed)
Start and or stop the heater by pressing the key fob to flash activate the headlights for 5-10 seconds or by one of the many options we added for control including pre-set timed starts and tracking via SMS.

A replacement was immediately despatched and received the following day. If only every company was as good as this! Full marks JGS, highly recommended.
