We work with schools who have children on their roll who may show similar traits to those who are autistic - we don’t need a diagnosis to help provide respite education for children who may be at risk from exclusion. We know school staff work hard to give a high level of care to children but sometimes a ‘breathing space’ away from school can help everyone. At Jigsaw our ethos is to work directly with Tees Valley Schools providing both Primary & secondary Provision. Get in touch for more information. www.info@jigsaweducation.net

We are learning everyday about on line APPs and need to keep up to date as much as possible to support our young people in using the internet safely.

No child is the same, no 'strategy' works with all children. Every teacher is different. It's interesting that our current mainstream school system expects everyone to 'fit in' ? Sometimes we can just fit in and other times in our development things happen which might make this much harder.
That's why respite education can be helpful to give everyone the space to breathe and Time for transitioning into the next part of the journey. We don't plant seeds and expect instant growth, it happens over time.

We use lots of coaching at Jigsaw to help our young people find their place of calm and connection. We also understand that there may be triggers that can set of some behaviours; these triggers are not always obvious: could be a certain look or a certain posture, tone of voice or gesture of a hand can trigger children who may have experienced trauma, separation or early anxiety. This post from Gail Hooper Coaching gives an insight into how years later, an adult can be 'triggered'. Imagine what this might be like for a child in a busy school?

This week at Jigsaw, we discovered the following: Its ok to feel confusion - this means our brains are trying to work something out. Some of our young people interpret confusion as a 'trigger' emotion. We explain that confusion comes before learning: we get used to what that feeling is telling us. It's ok to feel confusion. It's ok to not know something. Once we moved past this block our young people completed their new learning independently! With time and reassurance, they became aware that confusion does not have to be a block to progress.

No surprise to us! Our staff have been using these techniques for years! We also run classes & courses in schools.

At Jigsaw we help to rebuild self esteem: you are smarter than you think you are. Our ability is not fixed: we encourage open mindset.

Welcoming new students this week at Jigsaw and working closely with CAMHS. We also offer out reach Tuition 'at home' for students who may feel unable to access mainstream school or ego may have physical, emotional or mental health needs that need to be met first in order to access education. We work directly with our schools across Tees Valley; we are an independent education provider.

Sometimes children just don't have the emotional literacy to know how to ask for help; this is why teachers, support workers, parents, cares , social workers and CAMHS need to work together to really listen and if necessary provide a medium through which the voice of the child can be heard.
At Jigsaw we work closely with CAMHS by providing a therapeutic setting for key workers to meet with our children and their families 'in situ' . We believe this is part of the jigsaw. We believe in working with all parties in support of our children; education is just one piece of the picture.
