Jo Lawlor Physiotherapy Description

My philosophy as a physiotherapist is to search for the cause of the problem rather than simply treat the symptoms. My clinics are based around my patients and their individual needs; you may want an initial assessment to give you a diagnosis and let you know how to look after yourself, or you may wish for regular appointments and hands on therapy to help speed up your recovery. The choice is always yours and I am happy to guide and advise you on your road to recovery.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy helps to manage problems with muscles, joints, bones and ligaments. This includes neck and back pain, shoulder injuries, hip and knee arthritis, ankle sprains, tennis elbow and many more conditions. Ring me if you would like to know if I can help you.

I also provide sports massage, which can be combined with other forms of therapy to treat your joints as well as your muscles.

My history:
I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2002 from Leeds Metropolitan University. I then worked for 4 years at St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington in London, firstly as a junior rotational physiotherapist working in areas such as neurology, respiratory and orthopaedics and then as a senior musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapist, rotating around key areas including orthopaedics, out-patients, Women's Health and fracture clinic.

After 4 years I decided it was time to move back to my native North East and I have worked for Connect Physiotherapy for over 10 years now. I managed the Gosforth clinic and worked within the CATs service we provide to the NHS and then moved to manage the Low Fell clinic following my return from maternity leave in 2011 working a Clinical Specialist. During this time I completed my master's degree in Manual Therapy and became a member of the MACP (https://macpweb.org/home / - for further details). I have a special interest in pain management, neck and back pain as well as shoulder injuries and cervicogenic headaches (headaches originating from the neck) but I like seeing a variety of different conditions to keep life interesting!
