About Joe Orton'S Loot
From the Producers of hit comedy #TheBoysInTheBand comes another masterpiece - Joe Orton's classic dark farce. The multi award-winning comedy #Loot returns to celebrate 50 years! Uproarious slapstick meets dubious morals as two young friends stash the proceeds of a bank robbery in an occupied coffin, attempting to hide their spoils from the attentions of a psychopathic policeman, a gold-digging nurse and a grieving widower.
The ensuing black comedy shocked and delighted audiences in equal measure when the play premiered five decades ago, winning the Evening Standard Best Play award.
This fiftieth anniversary production is directed by Michael Fentiman, whose credits include two acclaimed shows for the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as the recent Park Theatre critically-acclaimed hit, Raising Martha.

"Loot is an example of a playwright working at his best. It's a farcical romp, still absolutely relevant today... This robust, riotous outing is much-welcome" ★★★★ WhatsOnStage

Thank you to playwright Mark Ravenhill who came to see the show last night and shared his thoughts with us...
'When I was eighteen I read everything Joe Orton - plays, diaries etc - over and over and even wrote a one-act 'in the style of'. Then in my 20s and 30s I saw productions and went right off the work: cynical, contrived, shallow. Last night, 'Loot' at the Park Theatre found an odd humanity and poetry in the play that's got me reassessing Orton all over again. The audience roared with pleasure at the curtain call. I think you should go'.
Last minute touches are being made to the Loot Coffin...
