Especially in #Pilates! Remember, keep your eye level just above normal level and don't look down! Your arms, legs, feet, etc. will still work without you looking at them 🤣

Do you have problems sleeping? I know I go through phases of this myself, especially when life gets so hectic!
Joseph Pilates always said that the most important element of better and deeper sleep is 'mental calm'.
Regular exercise is frequently recommended by experts as a natural way of overcoming sleep problems, but what if you still can't sleep? Joseph (Pilates) had this advice: Get up and exercise!
... That's not a tip you hear from many other sleep experts.
Now this is where it gets interesting: Joseph Pilates specifically suggests spinal rolling exercises for better and deeper sleep. The rolling and unrolling exercises massage the spine, relax the nerves, help cleanse the body, and restore natural flexibility of the spine.
This quote encapsulates Joseph Pilates' view of sleep and exercise:
"It is better to be tired from physical exertion than to be fatigued by the poisons generated by nervousness while lying awake."
If you try it, let me know how you get on 😊

One of the most common problems people come to class with is upper back pain or lower neck pain due to poor posture.
When you slump forward with your neck or round your shoulders in (think texting position!), your poor muscles need to work overtime to hold everything up. This can eventually lead to misalignment, pinched nerves, pain, soreness, and a variety of other problems.
In Pilates we work to release those tight muscles of your upper back to solve these woes. One of th...e ways we do this is by doing thoracic extensions on the foam roller.
This is just one of the many ways we work to lengthen & strengthen the muscles of your body to help maintain or improve your range of movement.
Use it, don't lose it!

Your core isn’t just your six-pack abs, or rectus abdominis, the trunk flexors that help you bend forward.
It’s your erector spinae muscle group, which helps you stand up straight and bend backward; your internal and external obliques, which help you twist left and right; your transverse abdominis, which pulls your belly button in; your multifidus, which holds your spine stable; and your quadratus lumborum, which connects your pelvis to your spine.
Some people even consider... the hip flexors, upper back, and iliopsoas muscles, which connect your spine to your legs, part of your core because of all the ways the muscles in the area interact.
Foam rolling helps relax tight muscles and break down adhesions around the musculature. Not only can that help bring the body back into better alignment and reduce muscular imbalances, but doing it after a workout, or a round of golf, can also dramatically decrease soreness up to 72 hours later*. It can significantly improve your range of motion.
The foam roller is just one of the many pieces of equipment we use in a Pilates class to challenge, or assist, our movements.
Why not come to class and learn more about caring for your body, keeping (and maybe increasing) your range of movement and strengthening and your muscles!

Improve Flexibility with Pilates...
Participating in Pilates will help you improve your overall flexibility. This is important, not just for athletes, but also for everyday folk, because enhancing flexibility not only helps improve performance and reduce the risk of injury.
Another perk is that during pilates exercises, there is an emphasis placed on maintaining balance and posture when transitioning in and out of different positions.
... Many of us get 'silly' injuries at home because we have lost essential flexibility. We drop something and reach to catch it, bend awkwardly when loading the dishwasher, trip putting on our underwear (you know you've done it!). By improving your flexibility and balance you can help prevent these common injuries.
I have recently had an influx of clients who are golfers (hence the new class (Pilates Tuesday 7.30pm at Willingdon Golf Club).
Flexibility is necessary for golfers because an ideal range of motion is needed to swing the golf club around your body. Flexibility also plays a significant role because it contributes to improving your distance, power and accuracy. In addition, being more flexible reduces the incidence of straining your back muscles.
If you would like more flexibility to assist your swing, or even if you are not a golfer but would like to move more freely, why not join us in one of my Pilates classes?

Golfers! Strengthen Your Core with Pilates...
Pilates exercises are focused on helping you develop a strong core.
Strengthening your core is essential to the game of golf because having a strong core can help you enhance your coordination, movement and flexibility. It is a known fact that as you improve your core strength, you will increase your physical abilities.
... Core strength is essential to your golf game and should always be made a priority because having strong abdominal muscles helps better your balance and strengthen your swing.
Having weak core muscles often leads to frustration because without proper core strength, you won’t be able to achieve the distance and consistency you are looking to achieve from your swing.
If you would like to improve your golf game with Pilates, join me for one of my many Pilates classes in Eastbourne.
Daytime & evening classes available, in Eastbourne behind The Beacon, or Tuesday evenings at Willingdon Golf Club & Pro Shop.
