Bavette steak is back on the menu tonight - with roast hispi cabbage, barbecue sauce and sweet corn. This staff sample lasted approximately 3.2 seconds! 🐄 🎯👊👍

User

So...it’s Sunday which is obviously a roast dinner day. But it’s hot too, so also maybe not such a roast dinner kinda day... maybe this bridges the gap; Confit Goosnargh duck leg, flageolet beans, spring cabbage, roast garlic alioli.

New starter: soused mackerel, ajo blanco, fresh cherries 🍒 🐟 Supervisor Becky reckons it's THE BEST fish dish she's ever tried - bold, but she's got a point. #food #restaurant #independent #menu #chester #seafood #fresh

Looking for someone to help us in the kitchen. Weekend work, washing up and a bit of veg prep. Any ideas?

On special: IbĂ©rico pork (pluma) & mushroom fideuĂ . . FideuĂ  is sensational; a speciality of Valencia, home town of our head chef JosĂ©. Often made with seafood, this is a little different. Think paella but with made with pasta noodles instead of rice and cooked with mushrooms, tomato and a deeply, deeply flavoured pork & chicken stock. ... Tastiest thing I’ve eaten in ages. . #fideuĂ  #valencia #lunch #special #ibĂ©rico #flavour #chester #restaurant #realfood #realflavour

A couple of cracking wines on by-the-glass this weekend: 1) Ink, from Judith Beck in Burgenland, Austria. A lovely, bright and highly approachable red. Soft tannins, elegant. A great example of fresh, vibrant naturally produced (organic & biodynamic) wine. 2) Cantina Tollo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva 2012. A classic, proper monty. Winner of many awards. Dark foresty fruits and broad warming backbone from 24 months in barrel. đŸ· Both ace. Come try.

We’ve not had chance to talk much about our chargrilled ‘underblade’ steak. Cut from the other (under) side of the feather-blade to flatiron, & seriously good. Served with chimichurri & fries. ‘Quite’ a popular Saturday order!! And only £15.20. #hotcakes #flyingout

We got a lovely new espresso machine & new house blend. Emily tells you more... (or just come and try it!). #coffee #espresso

User

A few changes to the menu this weekend. Oh yeah, and no more weather-related cancellations, please. In fact, no cancellations of any sort. Ever again. Ta. 👍

User

When we first walked in the staff were immediately attentive and very friendly, giving an excellent first impression. The menu is interesting with a reasonable choice of starters, mains and desserts plus an extensive drinks and wine list. The food was a real delight - and not the silly tiny portions that some other restaurants offer! A highly enjoyable evening and I'd love to return in the future.

User

Went into Chester for the day and decided to eat here. Couldn’t be any happier with the food. We had the Galician octopus, baked Camembert and galore king prawns and everything was perfect. The food took us straight to back to Spain with the flavours. This mad our day.

User

The perfect place for a family celebration. Wonderful staff and food. They never let us down ïżœ

User

The nicest meal I have eaten in a very long time! The staff were great and the setting is lovely.

User

My favourite place to go in Chester for food. Ambiance is great, food is amazing and the staff are always lovely. Can't reccomend highly enough

User

Lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff

All the food was excellent especially the steak with “it’s not just sauce it’s Joseph Benjamin sauce”

User

Loved it. Great choice with lovely staff, I really enjoyed my lunch and will most definitely be back. I had an amazing poached duck egg with ham hock and wild mushroom with artichoke purée with paprika crumb followed by roast brisket with all the trimmings. Spot on.

User

Just popped in with my baby daughter to feed her and have a cuppa the staff in there were very friendly and found me a space to sit down and a space for my baby's Pram there was no rush to pay for my latte and they left me to feed my daughter with no issues I payed for my latte before leaving and the nice girl in there opened the door for me i will definitely come back here again as the girls who work in there have lovely manners and me and my baby were made to feel very welcome so thank you

User

I wish I could give this place 10 stars. Came few weeks ago for Sunday dinner. I am very picky when it comes to Sunday dinner but it was the best I have ever had. Me and boyfriend both had something different we were just wanting more! Very quick and efficient staff also.. well done!

User

First time eating here last night after years of saying 'we must go'. Absolutely blown away by the food! the atmosphere is lovey too very relaxed but still special for 'occasions' and the service was probably best I've encountered for a long time! Possibly my new favourite place to go.... Thank you JB for a fab night.

User

Fabulous imaginative food and a relaxed but lively ambience. Lovely staff..attentive but not overbearing. Can't rate this lovely little restaurant highly enough, it's always at the top of our favourites list.

User

Every week my fiancé and I come to JBs and we can't get enough!

The menu is seasonal and locally sourced with every precision going into the presentation, flavour and textures of each dish. The ambiance is neutral and calm with some great quirky art all over the place; every detail has been considered making this a perfect dinning experience from the crockery down to the shelf of eclectic cook books - I could sit and read for hours!

The wine and drinks list is extensive with manager Emily offer pairings and descriptions of their wine of the month.

For me though, its the service that always entices us to return. Ran by 2 local boys and a team of attentive waitresses, JBs is situated perfectly on Chester's Upper Northgate Street. Joseph Benjamin is welcoming and relaxed enough yet still has an air of speciality that makes me want to dress up and enjoy a romantic evening.

I highly recommend this as a must go! Thank you Team JB xx

User

Dined here last night for my Husbands 40th and we were not disappointed. As soon as we walked through the door we were shown to our table and quickly began to serve us. The food was first class, the sharing cheese for starter was a new experience for us! The main of pork again was just fantastic. Chocolate Brownie and ice cream with honeycomb finished off a most perfect evening. Thank you

User

Delicious food, great wines and fantastic service. The starter of baked scallops was so beautifully presented and absolutely divine. Pork belly, pheasant and cod were all amazing (yes we all tried each others!!!). Too full for a pudding each we shared the rice pudding with cinnamon- so yummy! Third diner had a cheeseboard to himself - beautifully arranged with the right amount of cheese vs biscuits which is rare!!! Can't wait to visit again.

User

Came for a meal last night, 6 of us and I can honestly say it was one if the best meals I've had! The flavours in the food were outstanding! The atmosphere was fantastic and the service was superb. I can't recommend it enough! Thank you xx

User

Amazing food great service little gem this place every course was lovely will definitely be back

User

After an 'enforced' absence of three years it was so good to be back at JBs for Sunday lunch today and, oh boy, what a lunch! Couldn't find one thing to fault our visit from the warm welcome we received to the perfect beef and the sky high Yorkshire puds. It was soooo good to be back. It certainly won't be as long as three years before I/we return again.

User

Absolutely delicious food, lovely surroundings and attentive staff - we had a wonderful time last night thank you so much! I can highly recommend the home made fruit cake, Stilton and brandy, best sweet I have ever had! Will definitely be going back 10/10!

User

Nuzzling against the city walls in Northgate Street, award-winning Chester restaurant Joseph Benjamin well deserves its enviable reputation for great food and service. Dinner there tonight was a very special.

A creamy orzo risotto with a deep velvety texture. Presca Iberica - beautifully tender and pink, nestling on a bed of Romesco sauce and complemented by charred vegetables. And a crumble of fig, damson and pear - pleasingly tart against the sweetness of a scoop of cardamom ice cream. Together with polite and attentive service, this place is a real 'find' for locals and visitors alike.

Wherever else you plan to visit in this marvellous city, put Joseph Benjamin on your list. You won't regret it!
