Happy New Year. First tip of the year.
Constipation can lead to straining and further weakening of pelvic floor muscles. Avoiding constipation is key, but some women (and men!) appear to be more prone to constipation and pregnant ladies in particular often report this as an issue. This is largely due to hormonal influences.
When possible, let's avoid constipation but having a stronger pelvic floor for many women (and men but this is a women's health page !!) can reduce the... risk of pelvic floor damage.
Few things to consider ....
Are you regularly practicing pelvic floor exercises? How do you know you are doing them correctly? Are you experiencing urinary incontinence? Are you suffering with constipation? Do you have a heaviness down below ? Do you feel 'looser' down there ? Do you have painful periods ?
Lots to think about! I got carried away following my first tip of the year! But my point being please don't suffer in silence! It may be news to you that we have a team of clinicians who are able to help treat many common women's health complaints, including the ones mentioned above.
Please get in touch if you would like our support
