Karin Kraemer Jewellery Description

Bespoke jewellery designer Karin focusses on the design and manufacture of individual commissions such as engagement rings as well as developing her own collections.

Karin's main inspiration for her jewellery collections are Mother Nature:
She has had a life-long fascination for aquatic life, both on and in the water; she is a certified diver and has a certain “penchant” for sea-food:

She uses crab-shells, Cuttlefish-bones and beaks directly as masters for her collections and One-of-a-kind couture-pieces.

Always a strong believer in traditional techniques and skills, Karin adapted the classical method of casting small metal objects into cuttlefish-bones to her needs.

The newest range are cufflinks and custom-made collar stiffeners, exclusive ranges for Bespoke Tailors.

#staysharp #Repost @macanguswainwright ・・・ For this particular client we designed his shirt collar from scratch, not using a Pre designed pattern we needed to also male bespoke collar stays. Formed in sterling silver these stays have a textured side and a polished side which has the clients initials on them. #collarstay #collarstays #silvercollarstays #bespokesilver #bespoketailors #clientservice #customercomesfirst #extrayard #extramile #ec3

Ever since I've started working in this trade we had to be on guard, not buying from "a friend's friend with connections to a mine in Africa" and relying on lab-reports. I'm increasingly trying to source fair-mined and fair trade diamonds and gems for my clients which hopefully will make a small difference for the people working at the bottom of our industry.

Wonderful details!

Would you consider buying lab grown diamonds in your jewellery?

The beautiful weather-beaten rocks on the Coast Path in Cornwall came out in their finest last weekend, beautifully covered in lichen, barnacles and all sort of alien looking seaweeds and kelp. Go and see for yourself if you can! #visitcornwall #lichens #texturedinspiration #ontherocks

Natural shapes and structures inspire me immensely, I feel like a toddler walking through woods and wanting to pick up every interesting bit of wood, rock, plants. Bad news for others hiking with me 🐌 🤓 Have a lovely long weekend everyone! Enjoy the outdoors if you can! #naturespirits #intothewoods #inspiredbynature

Things have been a little prickly in my host country in the recent weeks, months and years. However I still haven’t given up hope someone will come up with a reasonable solution. Soon! I’ve been known for being a lucky sufferer of “Pareidolia”, people seeing faces in things or nature. A quirky one I’m happy to share appeared after a photoshop mirroring experiment. (Hint: it’s appeared above the bird feet) #Pareidolia #LondonWalking #Curlew #AtYourFeet @photoshop #OnTheGo #walking_street #ButlersWharf #SeeingThings

Isn’t this texture beautiful? What looks to be a small fault-line in this casting comes from the cuttlebones I’ve used to make the disc for this ring. Some of the cuttlefish bones show marks from previous injuries or particles disturbing the growth of their bones. I use this where I get a chance as a feature. #showyourscars #marinebiology #cuttlefish #naturallight #seacreatures #handmadejewellery #oneofakindjewelry #trulyoneofakind

I love Cuttlefish! (Those of you who know me can tell tales about them by now!) 🤓 They are amazing highly sophisticated creatures, clever, great at camouflaging, fierce hunters, fighters and care for their young so much, they stop feeding after having found a mate and produced offspring. 🦑... The eggs are being left attached to seaweed, rocks or ropes for the young to hatch after about 3 months who can look after themselves right from the first day. 👰 The male and females are usually returning to where they hatched after about 2 years to find a mate and start another generation. 🤵 If they are lucky enough and don't get caught on the way, a lot of them come back to the British Channel. And this is where I get mine from, in this case, directly from the fisherman in Dorset! 🎣 Now, did you know the calcium structure that supports their body and buoyancy, also called cuttlebone, is being used in metal casting for possibly more than 4,000 years? No? Stay tuned!
