Karrimor SF has been meeting the needs of the modern warfighter for over 20 years. Originally conceived to deliver improvements to the specialist military load carriage user. The company was instrumental in transferring innovation and technology from the outdoor pursuits industry to the extreme military environment where function and dependability where key requirements. Building on the success of the Karrimor civilian brand and its many innovations Karrimor SF as a separate company quickly became the soldiers brand of choice for backpacks. Karrimor civilian in many ways dominated the mountain and outdoor market and was a leader in the use of new materials and design. Karrimor pioneered the use of lightweight waterproof elastomer-nylon fabrics for use in backpacks with the introduction of KS-100e nylon fabrics. Pack designs such as the "Alpaniste" and "Haston Alpaniste" dominated the mountain and climbing pack arenas with the introduction of the first ‘modern' non-frame backpacks. This was the forerunner of all non-frame packs of this kind that we see today. The first size adjustable ‘SA' backpack support system was introduced into the large pack sector. The first ever closed cell foam sleeping mattress roll the "karrimat"was invented by Karrimor and is now an outdoor classic. In the 1980s Karrimor revolutionised the outdoor footwear market with the introduction of the KSB Karrimor Sports Boot range. The first outdoor boots to use suede and waterproof nylon uppers along with innovative shock absorbing soles. Replacing heavy stiff leather to create boots that were lightweight, waterproof and shock absorbing. Again this was to become a design innovation that we see everywhere in today's modern outdoor footwear. All of this and more allowed climbers to push the boundaries of what we thought possible. Allowing the First successful ascent of Everest's south-west face by Chris Bonington's team with Dougal Haston. The first oxygen mask free ascent of Everest by Peter Habeler and Reinhold Messner. The first ever female climber to conquer Everest with Junko Tabei and the first successful ascent of the south face of Annupurna. All accomplished using Karrimor equipment.
